Hell's Kitchen 4: Things Are Heating Up

The show began with the contestants being awakened with bullhorns and the sous chefs telling them to meet Chef Ramsay outside. They had to dig around in the garbage for all the waste from the night before. They had to pick out all the wasted food that shouldn’t have been thrown out and put it in a measuring column. He told them it was thousands of dollars of wasted food.

After they showered, they were told how to cut & portion halibut. He told them that each team had to do the same and he would judge which team had the most perfect 6 ounce portions cut from their halibut in 20 minutes. The teams tied. Both teams had 41 perfect filets. Each team had to choose a portion and the team with the one closest to 6 ounces exactly would be the winner. Ben chose one that weighed 5.9 oz.
Corey chose one that weighed 4.8 oz. The men won.

The women were told that as the losers, they would be prepping all of the night’s halibut, making all the fish stock and maximizing all the portions. The men got to join Chef Ramsay on a 100-foot yacht for a day of decadence and would go by Bentley to get there.

Jen started talking trash about Corey for losing the challenge for them. The other women told her that it was a team effort.

Jason was spouting sexist remarks about the women, like saying that they couldn’t do anything without a man to lead them. What a jerk! I hope he gets sent home soon!

Chef asked Petrozza to tell him the five appetizers for the evening and he couldn’t do it. Chef told him to go upstairs and study the menu and hi station would be unmanned until he got it right. Then he sent one member of each team to work the house and assist Jean Philip. He chose Craig from the men’s team and Rosann from the women’s team.

Petrozza couldn’t seem to get the menu right and took two tries. He almost quit after the first failed attempt but Bobby got him to stay with it.

Service began and Craig got the first orders in for the men’s team. Rosann took over 45 minutes to get the first orders in. Then, once the orders were being prepared, things went wrong on both sides of the house. After one problem after another, Chef Ramsay yelled, “Shut it down!”

Chef told them that the losing team was the women’s team. He told Corey that she was the best of the worst and would have to nominate two of her teammates for elimination. She chose to nominate Christina & Jen, for personal and strategic reasons. Chef let them each say why they should stay, then he said that he was sending home Sharon because he just didn’t believe in her.

What a crazy strategy! Didn’t Corey realize that her nominations would set her up for the others to take her down? Didn’t she realize that Chef Ramsay is smarter than that? And what about those men? Where did they find such a pack of egotists? If they’d spend more time trying to learn and less time posturing for the others, they would all do a lot better.
