Heroes 3.05 "Angels and Monsters" - review

Heroes episode 3.05 “Angels and Monsters
Airdate: October 13, 2008

“Heroes” is messing with our minds! There are so many twists and vortexes in the episode “Angels and Monsters”, that it’s so hard to keep up. But I’m liking every minute of it!

So let’s look back at Monday’s episode and see if we can make sense of the knots.

Heroes-305-angels-monsters-01Mind tricks from the mastermind! The biggest twist of the evening, among many other shocking reveals, is that Linderman is dead. Really dead. But Maury Parkman, that treacherous dad Matt, is projecting his image his identity to talk to Nathan and Daphne. But behind Maury is an even deadlier villain – Arthur Petrelli. Bedridden as he is, even Maury is scared of Mr. Petrelli and does his bidding. Arthur can invade Angela’s dreams and immobilize her. What else is he capable of? Did he orchestrate his own “suicide”? Is this payback for some unknown transgression that his wife and former Company did?                                                           NBC Photo: Chris Haston

Mr. and Mrs Smith Petrelli. It’s a marital affair between Pinehearst and the Company. Angela Petrelli is afraid that someone is manipulating the Company and stealing the formula to create synthetic abilities. I don’t buy yet that she doesn’t want to create more people like Nathan and Tracy, but why is she so scared?

Heroes-305-angels-monsters-19 Hiro’s betrayal. Can you believe Hiro did that?! I was so shocked that Hiro Nakamura can kill Ando just like that. What in the world was he thinking about sacrifice to save the world? Someone better explain Hiro in the next few episodes because this just went against what we know of him. It’s no wonder why Ando would turn against Hiro in the future.                                        NBC Photo: Trae Patton

Mohinder is venomous. No doubt about it. We saw what he’s to become in the future, we’re spoiling what he’ll do to his old friends, and we’re seeing him change before our very eyes. Goodbye Professor, hello Venom.

Now, I’m going to add something different to our review. We’ll highlight/recap what happened on Monday, because we need to keep track (!!) of the many angles that unfold each week.

  • Peter kills Sylar, and Sylar regenerates! Sylar should be so grateful to Claire for this now.
  • Peter tries to get Angela’s power and her other son saves her. Huh! Was that genuine concern I saw in Sylar’s face?! That was priceless and I think a clue to Sylar’s future.
  • Nathan and Tracy are unofficially a couple, and mama doesn’t like it. What happens when two synthetically powered humans hook up?
  • Claire goes vigilante! First she tasers Vortex Villain. When she found out he’s not really the monster she thought he was, she helps him find his family. Only then, daddy and Sylar mess things up, and Vortex vortexed himself into the unknown.
  • HRG doesn’t make it a secret that he wants Sylar dead. He asks Vortex Villain to make Sylar disappear. His plans botched, HRG now has to explain to Claire that he did that for the sake of his family.
  • Daphne gets recruited by Linderman, and she recruits two more people – Knox and Hiro. Then she’s asked to recruit Matt.
  • But Linderman is just a projection by Maury Parkman!
  • Maury talks to Arthur Petrelli about building the army his boss wanted.
  • Adam escapes from Hiro only to be “knoxed” out by Pinehearst’s newest employee.
  • Mohinder wraps Maya in his web, after he caught her snooping around his lair.

Next week, “Heroes” continues with “Dying of the Light“. If you recall, Kaito Nakamura gave a reference to the hope of the world, the “light” that can stop the destruction. Who is, or what is the “light”?

And don’t forget, there are more spoilers for “Heroes” volume 3 from the episode guide.
