Heroes episode 2.06 "The Line" recap

After watching the Heroes episode 2.06 “The Line“, one gets the feeling that things are about to get nasty for some of the heroes.

Claire is, after all, just a teenager. We can’t probably blame her. After all, she is just a teenager. In trying to hide West from her dad Noah, Claire lies about wanting to join the cheerleading squad. But maybe she really isn’t just lying to cover up. It looks like she really does want to be a cheerleader again. So Claire tries out and gets rejected by the head cheerleader Debbie. So West tells her to take Debbie ‘down a notch’ and pulls a prank on the uniformed girl. The pair set it up so that Debbie would see a flying mask man whisk Claire up in the sky and then drop her dead to the ground. When Debbie reports it to the police, her story becomes a tale of a drunken girl and the school suspends her from the squad. Which lands Claire a spot in the team. This would probably have been sweet revenge, but it reminds me so much of high school meanness, and leaves a bad taste. Especially since Claire wouldn’t have thought of using her powers to haunt someone like this had West not been around her life. He’s not turning out to be good for her after all. But then, they are both, just teenagers.

Mohinder, Monica and ‘Shanti’. Suresh gets Monica into the Company and studies her “adoptive muscles memory” ability by having her copy what she sees on TV. It’s becoming apparent that she can almost simultaneously copy what is currently being flashed on the screen and not just from some previous scenes she’s seen. And her skill is not limited to seeing what’s on screen but also anything her eyes focuses on. Bob wants Mohinder to experiment on her abilities with a variant from the Shanti virus – one that will take away her abilities without hurting her. Feeling that his principles were being compromised Mohinder asks Noah’s advice, to which the latter tells the scientist to do exactly as he’s told
otherwise his position, and Molly’s wellbeing, might be jeopardised. Still, Mohinder could not bring himself to use Monica as a guinea pig and destroyed the viral stock in storage. Surprisingly, Bob had a change of heart and apologized to Mohinder for getting out of line, telling Mohinder that the doctor is valuable to the Company because he keeps them in line, but that there are some abilities that must be destroyed” to which Mohinder quoted Adam Monroe’s name. Bob gives Mohinder a new partner, someone at the Company’s disposal – Nikki with her full powers restored.

Monica is returned to New Orleans with resources the Company provided for her to do more good in her city. (Which begs the question – why would the company do that? and you know that they never do anything philantrophic for anyone, much more to a person with abilities as fascinating as Monica’s).

“The kiss that fractured time”. Hiro, Kensei and Yaeko goes to White Beard’s camp in Kiso Mountain in hopes of rescuing the princess’ father. Hiro uses what he’s known from history to find the tent that “smoulders” where the swordsmith is being held captive. When they get to him, the rescuers find out that White Beard had the old man building an arsenal of guns to use for defeating the Emperor of Japan. Hiro convinces Kensei that destroying White Beard and his arsenal is the gaijin’s pièce de résistance, the one thing that will save all of Japan and make him The Hero. Just after they rescued Yaeko’s father, Hiro rescues Yaeko from gun fire by transporting her away from the enemy camp. The Princess then realizes that it was Hiro all along that she loves, and they end up kissing in “a kiss that fractured time and changed Hiro forever”. Unfortunately, Kensei sees them and feeling betrayed, he turns them over to White Beard for money.

Noah’s journey to hell. HRG and the Haitian pay a visit to Ivan, Noah’s former mentor, who is hiding and enjoying quite a good life in the Ukraine. HRG asks about Isaac’s missing paintings and when Ivan refuses to cooperate, HRG gets the Haitian to take away the memories that Ivan holds dear. When finally his mentor folds and confesses that the paintings are in a warehouse, HRG mercilessly kills Ivan and makes it look like a robbery.

Sylar’s shiny new toy. On the way to the US-Mexican border, Sylar entices Maya not to use her powers for getting what she wants. When they encounter a border patrol, Sylar tells Maya to kill the men around them and drive through
into the US. Alejandro gets to angry at Sylar and punches him but his twin sister gets between them, arguing that they still need Sylar to get them to New York. Sylar, evil as always, tells Alejandro that he will kill them both ones he gets his powers back. But even if he doesn’t, he knows Maya is already his “shiny new toy” and she will do everything for him.

Peter and Caitlin – hope for the future? The box that held clues to Peter’s past contained a ticket to Montreal, Canada. When Caitlin’s brother Ricky gets fried by Elle’s power, Peter decides to he can’t escape from his past anymore and decides to go after the woman who kills his girlfriend’s brother. The couple fly to Montreal and find themselves at the doorway of a house that he has foretold in his painting.There, Peter finds out a man named Adam Monroe left hims more clues about his past and future. There is a new world threat, and Peter must use his powers again to save the world anew. Thing is, Peter can’t remember what he
saved the world from the first time around! And then Caitlin and him are transported into the future, in New York, where a dead, decaying feel is everywhere.
