High School Musical 2: Fashion

Get the fashion looks of High School Musical 2 with these fab tips from the Salt Lake Tribune! They chatted with experts who created the “look” of the “HSM” movies – hair and makeup designer Robin Michelle Patrick and hairstylist Jennifer Llewelyn, both of West Jordan, and L.A. costume designer Tom McKinley.

Those country-club clothes: Luckily, the 1950s look McKinley wanted was in stores like J Crew and Guess last winter. Sharpay’s more glamorous look meant adding tons of crystal beading to pieces from designers like Bebe Sport. And Zac Efron insists on Diesel jeans.

Glam and glitter: McKinley purchased chunky jewelry “by the pound” from Forever 21 to outfit all the girls. Sharpay’s lucite and crystal star necklace is from Nordstrom.

Best accessory: In “HSM2,” Sharpay sports a tiny Yorkie belonging to director Kenny Ortega. His role wasn’t planned: Including him was Ashley Tisdale’s idea.

Oh, those curls: Patrick wanted hairstyles that were softer and more “outdoorsy” than in “HSM.” While Zac Efron sports the same cut, his hair was colored for “Hairspray.” “I know people like it,” Patrick said of Zac’s darker tresses. “It makes his eyes stand out.”

Hair tips: To get Vanessa Hudgens’ soft waves, use an exothermic spray on dry hair and wrap it around a big curling iron. Aerosol hair spray gives a drier hold. To produce a soft wave in Tisdale’s longer hair and extensions, Llewelyn would turn the flat iron completely in her hand as she slid it down the hair.

The fishtail look: Fishtail braids like those shown on Tisdale are made by dividing hair into even portions. Take a piece from underneath one portion and wrap it around that chunk. Grab a piece from underneath the other portion, wrap it over and around and overlay the pieces together. Continue until hair is loosely braided.
