We all knew it would be a hit!! High School Musical 2 danced into the Nielsen record books with a whopping first-night audience of 17.2 million people.
The Friday night premiere of the highly anticipated followup to the Disney film franchise “High School Musical” was the most-watched basic-cable telecast ever. It’s also the biggest TV draw ever with audiences between the ages of 6 and 11, and TV’s most-watched entertainment show ever with audiences between the ages of 9 and 14.
What’s more staggering about the “HSM2″ numbers is the figures do not account for viewing done at parties around the country, which are not tracked by Nielsen Media Research.
Friday’s “HSM2″ figures are likely to be the largest for any programming airing on cable or broadcast television for the week.
