Hilary Duff in “Greta”

Hilary Duff stars as Greta in this coming-of-age film of the same name. Co-starring some big names like Ellen Burstyn (Katherine), Michael Murphy (Joseph) and Evan Ross (Julie), this New Jersey film follows 17-year-old Greta as she struggles with a deep-seated hurt.

Greta is beautiful, smart and sarcastic, but she harbors feelings of suicide. Pushed aside by her mother Karen, Greta goes off to her grandparents in Ocean Grove for the summer… against her will. She makes it known that she wants to kill herself during the summer, and compiles a book of suicide methods. It’s not until Greta falls for the short-order cook at the diner where she works, and realizes that people care for her fate, that things change.

In Greta, we follow the life of a teenager in peril, but also brush against the lives of settled grandparents in a small community. There are also social issues, as Greta finds out the criminal past of her new boyfriend and deals with the reality of their inter-racial relationship.
