Time for some important news instead of the crazy rumor mill fodder!

On Friday night Brad Pitt took part in the “Hope For Haiti Now” fundraiser that was essentially organized by George Clooney. If you missed the telethon (which was absolutely wonderful by the way, and which had me sobbing for two straight hours), you can see Brad’s speech right over here. The story that he told about a musician in Jacmel was beautiful and touching.
News has been released that Hope For Haiti Now has broken records by raising a staggering $57 million, a number that is still steadily climbing thanks to the fact that you can still donate online if you missed the opportunity to do so on Friday. You can also donate there even if you’re not a U.S. resident.
The $57 million also doesn’t take into consideration any donations that were made by corporate organizations. The final total will also have to look at how much fundraising occurred courtesy of people downloading the performances via iTunes. Once they add in those two sources as well as the money continuing to pour in, George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now will be a huge success and an incredible amount of relief for the people in Haiti. Everyone at PittWatch who donated – either to this telethon or one of the other numerous charity organizations who are helping Haiti – should truly pat themselves on the back for being so amazing.
I’m very happy that Brad Pitt was a part of the telethon and that Brad and Angelina both donated a large sum to Doctors Without Borders shortly after the tragic earthquake hit.
(I’ve been informed that PittWatch was mentioned on radio station MIX 100 in Denver, Colorado this morning. Thanks to the DJs, and welcome to all the new Denver readers!)

This is wonderful that the world can come together and help another country get back on its feet. Now all we have to see is where all that money goes. A documentary following the money to the point that it helps the people, especially the poor who have lost everything would be nice. I don’t mean to be a naysayer but we have seen it again and again the money never gets to the people that really need it.
Sherry – thanks for this wonderful news! I´m so happy that they got so much money. I have watched this telethon over and over again and each time certain survival stories make me cry. I donated a small sum to Finnish Red Cross today and now I feel really great. I may not have much myself but when I think that those poor Haitians have lost so much I don´t want to complain. My money will go into a good cause and that makes me feel really good. Those rag reporters should also do their part of helping Haiti and its people instead of writing these outrageous lies about the celebs. Helping those people is much more important than those LIES. I really wish that among those people there also is goodwill to help those in need. God bless the Jolie-Pitts forever!
Great news. It’s good to see people come together for Haiti. I hope the donations keep pouring in. I donated and I hope it will be enough to help.
I am very glad to hear this news. It is so heartening to know that so many people got together, the celebs and those who made pledges, to help Haiti.
UNDER MOD- A one sentence post!
This is great news indeed! :)
Sherry, you can donate there even if you’re not a U.S. resident???Really? That’s great cause I thought I couldn’t donate and to be honest, I did not search it much.Me and my friends already donated to Doctors Without Borders here in my counrty, but I’d like to make a donation there too!Thank you for the info and the wonderful news!!!
Oh,and congatulations for your daughter and her school!!!She sounds like a wonderful kid!!!
you must be very proud of your daughter, Sherry- that came straight from her heart!!
It’s so good to know that we can make a difference, collectively, and we do, even when they say there’s a world recession on. The Haititan people will be much encouraged to rebuild their lives knowing that so many people care and want to help make things better for them.
That’s wonderful. I boxed clothing etc donations these past two saturdays, and the most recent had so many volunteers that they had a hard time finding work for them. I’m talking easily 500+ people streaming in and out over a 6hr period. The coord’s said they hadn’t seen it like that even with Katrina.
p.s…..that photo of George is making my knees weak.
jpf
Heck 5 bucks can sometimes be a lot to adults too. So thats really awesome, you should be very proud of your daughter. :]
My 11 year old sisters school started a collection for Haiti. When she called and told me how many kids brought in their allowances to give to them I was really pleased. Some were even going out looking for soda cans to turn in for extra cash too. It was nice to hear that it wasn’t just a check from the parents, these kids actually felt something for someone beside themselves, and really wanted to help. Thats a wonderful thing. :]
That is great news, alot of money to help them. I heard our Friday night Telethon raised 64 Million dollars and the Priminister said he would raise the amount given by Canada, he said at first he would give 50 Millioan we went way above that amount, Isnt that great for our country.
For Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, together or apart,
sending a piece written by the poet Fernando Pessoa:
“No matter if the season changes …
If the century turns, the millennium is another.
If they grow older …
Retains the will to live,
You do not get anywhere without it. ”
-FERNANDO PESSOA-
Is what matters most.
May the peace of God be with everyone.
Indeed, many celebrities donated large sums of money as well (I also read that Gisele Bundchen donated 1.5 million, among others). I’m glad that people who can REALLY afford to help are stepping up.
I’ve heard of kids donating money too. My daughter’s elementary school was one of many that had a “Dress Down for Haiti” day on Friday where you could wear your own clothes instead of the school uniform, as long as you brought in $2 for Haiti relief. Instead, she asked if she could bring a bit more to help them as much as she could, so she ended up taking in $5 from her piggy bank. At only 7 years of age, $5 is a whole lot of money!
I was so proud of them for donating such a nice amount. I also heard Sandra Bullock donated the same, which I thought was so lovely of her to do. Everyone who donated should feel good, its times like these that show how much people can accomplish if we just work together. What really impressed me though was the amount of stories Ive heard about kids donating their money.
I hope in the weeks to come people don’t forget about Haiti, because they are still going to need our help.. and our prayers and good thoughts certainly wouldn’t hurt.
