While in the UK this week, I have had on and off access to exactly four channels – and never all at once.
It’s been interesting to watch TV – it takes me back to my year abroad here where I, like much of Britain, became a big fan of the soaps like “Eastenders”, “Coronation Street” and Australia’s hugely popular “Neighbors.”
Now, the soaps are a bit different. The storylines are largely the same but the ethnicities, looks and fashions of the characters have changed.
One show that appears to be quite popular is “Hollyoaks” – a teen soap which relies more on style than substance. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but be struck by the differences and similarities between the show and “Gossip Girl” (especially the proliferation of cell phones). It makes me wonder exactly how popular “Gossip Girl” will be once it hits.

Well if how popular the books were to go by then i would say it should be quite popular. Maybe not as much as other american programmes. But its something different. I’ve been waiting 6 months for them to screen it over here and having put up with watching it over the internet. I can safely say for myself that i love Gossip Girl. I love the books and the spin off series. I just want to live in New York so maybe thats why i love it!
does blake have a boy friend?
I’m from Sweden and here it’s very popular, you can find most of the books here both in english and in swedish. The show is going strong, once every week at the channel that earlier showed, OC, One three hill, Kyle XY, desperet housewifes Grey’s and alot more! I think alot of people whatched the show on the internet before it came here and that’s way it hasn’t got the same high rating as OC had but still it’s BIG!
There are no similarities between Hollyoaks and Gossip Girl. Hollyoaks is way better than GG and the show’s been on forever. It’s not some trendy new show like GG.
Hollyoaks is the best.
i dnt no abt the UK but all i can say is tat in malta…we <3 Gossip Girls!!
well i live in bulgaria, and even here lots of girls know about gossip girl. we dont have it on tv, so most of us watch it on the internet, and then sell the books here too, which im very thankful for haha only in english though which isnt bad since im not good at bulgarian but yeah its popular even in the most untalked about countries so yeah.
