But two years later she convinced herself the industry would grant her entry only if she was skinny. She existed on only an apple a day and her weight plummeted to 7st 10lb.
In 2003, while pregnant with her second child, Joe, she gained nearly 4st. I read that Posh spice had what’s called a “Mummy tuck” after her pregnancy- apparently a very dangerous procedure (possibly banned in N. America)
I think that these woman are making other woman feel bad about there own body image because in all magazines its diet this, how to loose weight in 2 weeks to look like these apparant role model. I’m a healthy person who works out 4 times a week but still feels fat because of my body image!! women aren’t perfect but its the next generation of girls that are going to effected even more than us with 7 year old girls saying i look fat in this how much worse will it get ………sad but true.
I work at a clinic for women with eating disorders, and this makes me soooo sad. It’s no wonder that some of our ladies are near death and will face a life-long struggle with their ED when this is the role model we’ve set American Women to look up to. I hope this is exaggerated.
I think the truth is that female celebs just don’t exercise as often as they say they do. Most of them are thin because they don’t eat — simple as that. When they say they run every morning and do pilates four times a week, they’re LYING. They probably put in an hour at the gym two or three times a week.
I firmly believe that you can eat three good meals and two snacks a day and still be thin, as long as you exercise regularly and don’t eat a lot of crap. But I also firmly believe that celebrities are MUCH thinner than the “average” healthy woman, and I think that’s entirely due to living on 1200-1400 calories a day.
This can’t be true! From personal experience each time I do a daily cal deficit that’s greater than 700, my body immediately starts to store fat and shed muscle at the 3rd day, which means you get bigger because fat takes up more space. These women must be doing at least a 1000 cal deficit which would mean they probably have no muscle at all (which seems pretty impossible given the fact they are so thin). This is only possible if their metabolism is so screwed up (maybe that’s the reason with such a shitty diet), the sad thing is that they will probably never be able to eat like a normal person because their bodies are use to it.
Please don’t do this! You’ll regret it so much!
It seems as though these women torture their bodies to please the eyes of their viewers. It’s not healthy to eat such a small amout of calories a day unless under the supervision of a licensed dietition. This is really beacuse a person needs a certain amount of calories to survive in one day (even if you’re bed-ridden, your body still needs energy to power your heart). We can’t starve ourselves to please other people- it’s better to live healthily and enjoy life. It’s really not worth it.
These seem like very unhealthy diets — their muscle must be non-existent, and after a while, wouldn’t this start to take a toll on their brain function, skin texture, teeth, nails, and bones… not to mention mental health. I mean, sure you’re thin and beautiful in your 20s and early 30s, but once it starts catching up to them their looks will go faster than someone who’s not been depriving themselves that way.
all of these diets will damage your metabolism and they have low protien, so in turn your hair will fall out your nails teeth and bones are a mess and when your eating habits return to normal your metabo is so messed up you gain more than what u lost and it becomes harder to lose cause your body thinks food is scarce and stores fat. so eat organic food every two hours count chemicals in your food not calories and only eat simple food like brown rice beans veggies fruit and fish and chicken and jog ten to fifteen minutes twice a week and you will be good i promise
Bless these women, i will do anything to stop eating the way i do write now, i cant stop eating and it is distroying my life for over five years now i eat on average 3500cal. a day am now 30kg over weight it beter to be under weight and healthy than be over weight.
This is ridiculous. First of all, if you really consumed this little each day, your body would start eating away at muscle. This is impossible to maintain for long periods of time. I am 115 pounds, and am considered extremely fit, and I eat about 1700-1800 calories a day. Considering that your BMR is likely around 1100/1200 (this is a resting state, does NOT include how much you burn with exercise and daily activity!) There is no reason why celebrities should be eating this little, considering that they work out alot. This is sad. Also, not healthy. Not nearly enough vitamins and minerals in this diet…kind of scares me. I really hope no one reads this and starts following this kind of diet because that would really be difficult and unhealthy to maintain…
The average person burns 2000 calories each day! No wonder models start fainting when the photo shoots last too long! I’m always struggling with my weight and would love to be able to limit myself to just 1500 calores each day! And that’s without exercise!
wow. I really feel sorry for these women. I maintain 100 pounds on three TIMES what Liz eats daily. pity.
Yes, that is a very low amount of calories, but when I had to loose weight, I was put on basically the same diet as Gweneth, no more than 500 cals per day, and I was drinking 2 liters of water a day, I lost 75 pounds in a year, (went from 225 at age 18 to 150) and 5 years later, at 122, I am still pretty much faithful to it. I guess you don’t want to quit due to guilt, good results, and habit.
This confuses me. Was this a real interview, or just a load? Because really, who survives on that? I thought your body went into a type of ‘starvation’ mode.
It must be horrible to be hungry 24-7.
I’m with the last person who commented. Six raisins? Who counts? If Raisin Bran gave you six raisins per bowl, they’d be getting a lot of complaints!
It is sad to think that all of these celebrities are trying this hard. Their whole lives must be consumed by how they look every second. I bet half of them purge if they eat a grape for the fear that it might bulge out their 25-inch bellies. Ridiculous! I say: We’ve got about 10,000 taste buds. Let’s enjoy them :)

[...] A shocking article that appeared on Snarky about “How many calories do celebrities eat?” was not as shocking to me as it was to those that commented. Is the price of fame worth the headache? Examples: Super model Claudia Schiffer revealed that the day of the news interview she had only consumed 537 calories. Well Claudia, put me on the F-List as I consume that many calories a day just drinking water, Yeah, flavored water. Even Liz Hurley went on the say that she only had one banana and six raisins for breakfast. And my reply to that is one banana on my cereal and at least six raisins on every spoonful is my breakfast of champions. [...]
