TV Guide is reporting quite a few new characters joining Ugly Betty this fall for season four. Casting is now underway for these characters:
- Natalie, Daniel’s sexy 20-something new assistant (remember, Betty FINALLY got promoted to feature editor, and apparently Amanda, who always wanted the job, is way too valuable at the front desk. Except for a short time, she was replaced by a clipboard and a flower :) ) Natalie will meet Daniel at a bereavement support group. She has a secret – something which might pit her against Betty. At first I thought this was the young African American woman they were casting, but her name will be Emily. Unless the writers liked the name Natalie better than Emily.
- Claire Meade’s son through Cal Hartley. He’ll be another 20-something. Obviously, if they are casting the role, that blows the Matt-as-Claire’s-son theory.
- A secret new character somehow connected to Wilhelmina. This must be the one from the earlier casting news (Emily). They’ve already given Wilhelmina a sister, and daughter. Could this be another daughter? I don’t think so. The writers are going to throw us a curveball, I think.
- “A hot sexy Queens-type man” who will compete with Archie for Hilda’s affections. This must be the one with mob connections.
- A new love interest for Marc St James. Hopefully, he’ll be funny and loveable – it’s going to take a lot to get many of us over Cliff!
This doesn’t even include Amber, the new editor who is the queen of backhanded compliments.
Although this looks like a LOT of new characters, it’s really not more than they introduced in the first few episodes of season 3 – I have no doubt they’ll be introduced over time, although the premiere IS two hours.
BTW, NO mention of the Gio-type character. Do you think they gave up on this idea?
I am most interested in Natalie (if they make her Daniel’s love interest, I’m coming to New York and kicking Silvio Horta’s dog), and the mysterious person in Wilhelmina’s life. (For comedy, I’m looking forward to this Amber character).

Omg, if this new Natalie person is guna end up being Daniel’s new love interest, I will stop watchin this show altogether. I mean seriously, WTF Silvio?! I dun c UB lasting more than 5 seasons nd I really wana see Betty n Daniel as end game, but how the hell is that possible if they keep giving them a new love interest every freakin episode. ARGH. But I am interested in seeing what this secret is, n how it involves Betty.
Another thing that has me is that Matt is not Claire n Cal’s son. That wuda made 4 a gr8 storyline.. Guess they have other plans 4 us in the up coming season.

I hope Marc’s new love interest is as delightfully snarky as Marc is (we didn’t see nearly enough of Amanda last season), and I’m looking forward to Amber as well.
Hilda as a possible mob moll? I can totally believe that.

So much for the theory that Matt is Claire & Cal’s love child. I’m wondering if the casting call for the “son” & the earlier tidbit about the likeable/blue-collar guy are the same character & if this character will come in direct contact with Betty..I guess when everything comes to a head, the “son” will be a half brother to BOTH Daniel & Matt..

The Mystery person who’s connected to Wilhelmina … could it be an old boss of her’s aka Fey Summers … there’s been no proof she’s really dead. The morgue scene (earlier season) with the late Bradford for instance … maybe she’s alive?????

I don’t think Daniel will sleep with Natalie. This will be a test for him over whether or not he’s really reformed–will he sleep with his first assistant after Betty or control himself? I think it will be the latter. First, he’s still grieving over Molly, so sleeping with Natalie (whom he met at a bereavement group, no less) would be extremely tacky and disrespectful. Second, the writers have, if nothing else, been fairly consistent with Daniel’s character growth.
It would bother me more if he started confiding in her like he does with Betty, even moreso than if he just slept with her. Now THAT would make me angry ;P

Natalie and Molly look oddly familiar…hmmmmm. They sort of sound the same too. but whatev, I totally want Daniel and Betty to get together…too bad for hopes and dreams
