Idol Face Off - Bridge Over Troubled Water

Today’s Idol Face Off has Clay Aiken (American Idol) facing off against Anthony Callea (Australian Idol). He’s a very worthy opponent in my eyes so give him a chance!!!

Clay Aiken

Anthony Callea

Still Clay is #1 one here. Anthony is good, but he’s no Clay Aiken.

  2. carly

    The incomparable Anthony Callea.

He could sing opera if he wanted to. The late great Luciano Pavarotti didn’t heap praise on Anthony for nothing.

    You’re the best, Anthony!

I got goose bumps when Clay came on stage to sing his version with a gospel spin and it blew me away.
While being a very good singer and trying to put a gospel touch to it as Clay had already done he didn’t do it for me. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

HUH?!!! Clay’s version blew you away but he didn’t do it for you? I don’t get it.

Did you or didn’t you like Clay’s version because I can’t understand how one’s performance can blow you away but still not do it for you.

Roni, Sorry I meant Anthony didn’t do it for me. I think my mine was on something else when typing this.
For me Clay is the best and I am captivated by him.

  7. gretta

Not keen on Clay’s performance of this song. It’s too “Hollywood”.

  8. Roni

Thanks Jackie for taking the time to clarify. I hope I didn’t come on too strong. I was just confused by what you wrote. I understand now and most certainly agree with you.

  9. Mari

WOW This poll is STILL going on since October? When does it end? Or is it going to stay open indefinitely? I have never seen anything go on this long!!!

  10. Bev

Mari. LOL Neither have I. I think its a testament to the similarity in the fan bases of both Idols. No one wants the other to have the last word. lol

  11. camellia

Not Clay Aiken. Anthony Callea’s version kicks butt but then everything he sings sounds brilliant!

  12. Lila

I think ‘kicks butt’ was an unfortunate choice of words concerning these artisits. lol

  13. Jackie

Lila, I think your comment was unkind and in refering to both of these young men you are assuming something you can’t know.

  14. camellia

Lila, perhaps you haven’t heard the expression ‘kicks butt’ before. It’s actually used to praise someone or something that’s been achieved extremely well. It isn’t an offensive expression, and I meant it in the context of “nailing” this song. That isn’t an offensive expression either.

  15. Lila

All I said Jackie is that it was an unfortunate choice of words, and I didn’t mean it unkindly. Anthony is openly gay and Clay is reported to be but I don’t know if he is or isn’t. Nothing wrong with it if he is.

  16. Jackie

Lila, You got that right that other people have decided what Clay is even though he has openly said he is not gay. The problem is those people evidently feel that they have a right to decide for him unkindly and most often very hurtfully to him and injurous to his career. If I was wrong on your intent, I apologize.

  17. thereisonlyoneidol

Anthony has a stronger voice but Clay has the feeling. Clay gets my vote.

  18. thereisonlyoneidol

As my name suggests, there is only one Idol and that is GUY SEBASTIAN. He is the supreme interpreter. Search him on youtube and you will agree.

  19. psbintl

    Again,

Clay can go from Baritone to Tenor in an eyeblink and has a three octave range in Tenor as well. Not only that he is PITCH ON PERFECT and sings with feeling!

Show me another male vocalist in the industry today who can do THAT and then we have a worthy opponent.

    Otherwise, Idol found, game over!

  20. Jackie

Clay has a powerful voice that is also glorious. He is the American Ideal. A wonderful young man with a very big passion for helping children with special needs.

  21. ziggy

thereisonlyoneidol, this face-off is between Clay Aiken and Anthony Callea, NOT Guy Sebastian.

  22. katua

Anthony Callea’s voice is rich and warm and passionate. Furthermore, his vocal genius lends itself to any genre of music. He definitely gets my vote.

  23. Bev

As of tonite, Clay really is our “knight in shining armour”.
He nailed his Sir Robin part in “Spamalot”
    Bravo Clay!

  24. cris

Anthony Callea – beautiful voice, beautiful guy.

  25. Matto

Second part of Anthony’s performance is better than the beginning, still overall he sings many flat notes. Although I do not like the gospel arrangement I have to say that Clay’s version is amazingly well sung from the beginning till the glories end. My vote goes to Clay for the harmony, clear sound and this long note at the end.

  26. resta

Anthony Callea …. we came for the voice and we stay for the voice!!

  27. Tim

Callea for me – love the tone of his voice
