Clay just OOOOOZES charm and charisma out of every pore of his being! He is an ENTERTAINER par EXCELLENCE!

What else can be said? Clay Aiken is just so unique and special with an amazing talent that comes along maybe once in a generation. He’s magnificent. Others will come and go, but Clay has staying power and is going to continue to be a force. He’s grown so much more comfortable on stage since American Idol. He’s just a true natural – a born entertainer with the best voice on the planet. See him in concert – he’s magical. He captivates the audience, something not everyone can do. The singing goes without question, but he’s also funny, smart and adorable not to mention gorgeous and quite filled out with that much needed weight he’s put on since AI. Gotta love this guy!

To me, Brian sang the song in a very hoarse, whisper voice. Did not like it. He did, however, have a nice look.
I thought Blake did a little better than Brian, though it was not very exciting, I liked his little hand to the pocket move.
Clay’s rendition was amazing — power, range, stage presence, look. Nothing else to say.

Clay looks fine in his current wardrobe style.I really don’t know if his cousin is his stylist but boy those are very expensive clothes he is wearing.Very British influenced.Paul Smith and Ozwald Boateng, same designers for Usher,Michael Douglas and Jon Bon Jovi. These expensive clothes are usually worn with designer jeans like Diesel etc.Observe the clothes that male celebs and movie stars are wearing currently and Clay is following the same trend.

There really is no comparison. Clay Aiken has it all over the other two. I am sorry but the others are kind of “wimpy” versions if you ask me….as I don’t really care for those “breathy” styles. Blake came in a far down the line second and I couldn’t even finish watching Brian Melo’s version…his style bugged me. To each his own………but I prefer Clay’s version far and away above these other two.

This performance is where Clay Aiken ran away with my heart forever. It was so ultra cool it was unreal.

I like Blake and think he’s talented but his interpretation of that song was a total snooze fest. The other young man’s video wasn’t available for me to view at this time.

Enjoyed them all, but liked Clay Aiken’s interpretation the very best.

I swear, I could’ve closed my eyes and seen Bobby
Darin. Clay was the best of all

Clay captured the era and the mood of the song the best of the 3. The song is meant to be a paradox. A bouncy beat delivering the sinister story of a gangland hitman. It is not meant to be sung casually or smoothly. Its a knife in the gut delivered with a smile. The only one that understood the song was Clay.

Clay wins. Best stage presence & voice.
As far as Clay’s current fashion is concerned, he is just wearing what the industry considers to be” in style” for the moment. If you watch the entertainment shows you will see men wearing jeans with the jacket and the loose buttoned shirt untucked. Clay’s haircut & style is also ” in “. I am not fond of this hairstlye on anyone. Hopefully a new look will come “in style” very soon!

tss, I’ve already admitted that Clay has an amazing voice and it’s irrelevant to me whether Bobby Darrin sang it “fingersnapping happy” too… that’s not what the song is about. I am a fan of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill and I am familiar with the original context of the song and that is what Brian captured for me.

And I also think it’s irrelevant how long someone had to sing the song… it doesn’t change the tone of their voice or the mood that they capture, it doesn’t improve a performance if it’s bad… it just happens to be the length of time it was sung. And it certainly had nothing to do with my opinion that Brian captured this particular song better for me. I’m not saying that Brian has a better voice than Clay (clearly he doesn’t… although he has a very good voice for his style), but I’m judging the whole package here and Clay just didn’t have it for me in this instance.

Right on McKenna. Clay wouldn’t have near as many non-fans if his supposed supporters were less “enthusiastic” about defending him..lol Clay can make it on his own merit and too many chefs ‘spoil’ the stew…lol
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Mine being, Clay is the best…lol

You people attack other people’s comments and opinions and are the reason some people write negative stuff. It is not Clay that they do not like, it is the “attackers”. tss -We are not stupid and are entitled to our own opinions. Yes we KNOW AI does not do make overs on former contestants. DUH!Thanks for the brilliant feedback. I agree with other comments that Clay needs a professional stylist and maybe not limit himself to his cousin. Anywayz -for this poll – Clay sounds and looks great in this clip and gets my vote.

I have always loved Bobby Darin and for the longest time I thought the name of the song was Mack the Night! lol

  16. By tss

weirdgrrrl- compare how long Brian had to perform this song compared to Clay—more than 3 times longer. Clay clearly has the better voice and stage presence! And Bobby Darin performed this song fingersnapping happy, too!!!

McKenna, dear, Clay is all done with AI-they don’t do makeovers on past contestants!! Clay looks pretty good now-a-days!! I just wish he would dress a little more classier when it is called for. He still, sometimes, is like the freshman college student (and he will be 29 in Nov.!!). LOL Clay looks great in a suit or great-fitting jeans/slacks and a nice shirt that fits him!!!
And to the commentators who ‘forgot how great Clay sings’. He has several cds out in the stores, has performed on tv more than all the other AI contestants (not just winners) combined, has toured solo 8 times-he is out there! Check out the numerous fansites and youtube.com has thousands of videos that show how great an entertainer Clay is. One for the times and the long future!!

Well there is no contest with this one. Clay sang a lot better than the others but it was a short verson. He looks sooo cute in the tape, 2. I saw him in concert with my mom this summer and he looks a lot diffrent now. He is still kinda cute and I laughed a lot. He’s cool. I like the way he sings even in the old songs. He should get those AI people to give him another make over. He is diffinently hawt tho.

Holy lots of comments, Batman! I’ll admit that I didn’t read all 97 of them, so I’ve just kind of skimmed a bunch of them and I’m surprised at the overwhelming votes for Clay. Don’t get me wrong, I think Clay has an amazing, powerful, pure voice that is pitch perfect and I love many of his other performances… but I’m just not crazy about how he performed the song. Maybe it is just like Bobby Darrin performed it but I wouldn’t know because I’m more familiar with this song through the original musical “The Threepenny Opera”, as well as the Louis Armstrong version, and I thought Clay’s version was just too gosh darn happy to fit the song.

Blake really didn’t do much for me in this performance… too smooth in a lounge singer kind of way.

I thought that Brian did the best in singing the song the way it was meant to be sung. And I also thought his performance was the best out of the three. I understand that the tone of his voice and his style of singing may not be to everyone’s taste and I recognize that he lacks Clay’s power, but I’ve gotta stick with the way the song should be sung in my opinion… so Brian is the hands down winner for me.

Watched Clay Aiken on AI2, bought his first CD and then just did not keep up. But after Blake Lewis, who I like a lot, sang this, I just kept thinking that it did not compare to Clay Aiken’s performance. So I went online to find Clay’s version and immediately got hooked again. Hooked enough to go see him in concert. I had forgotten how truly incredible his voice is . So my votes for Clay.
