Known to us Grey’s fans as Dr. Callie Torres, Sara Ramirez is climbing the spotlight ladder thanks to her now regular status on Grey’s Anatomy. And USA Today has just released an article all about her.

The Mazatlan, Mexico-born actress is no stranger to blood and guts. She’s a fan of TV shows about medical procedures and grew up with an oceanographer father who brought her with him to labs.
“I was always around rows of crazy jars that smelled like weird fermenting things from beneath the sea.”
Ramirez’s parents divorced when she was 8. Her father moved to Miami, and her mother, a former actress and singer, relocated to San Diego and enrolled Ramirez in a school for the performing arts.
Like Grey’s Callie, who at one point was living in the hospital basement, Ramirez has resided in less than luxurious digs. During her 12 years on and off Broadway, Ramirez had several “humbling” living experiences in New York.
“I ended up renting a room (from) a really eccentric couple,” she says. “Then there was a woman who kept every room piled up with clothes and dirty stuff. I found things missing. But it taught me I can live with less.”

Why, for the love of God, do people keep referring to Dr. Torres as “hot”. She is a disgusting pig monster. If any of the writers from this show research these websites for ideas on what the fans want to see I hope they see this: I almost threw up when they showed that linebacker dancing in her boy-shorts underwear. I have a new found respect for the talent of the actors and actresses on this show that have to make comments like “she’s hot George” or “you have a hot girlfriend that wants you” without cringing or laughing hysterically. I don’t even want to begin on the fact that these writers put the possibility of Dr. Sloan hooking up with this sea cow. For a successful good looking plastic surgeon to hook up with a potential “before” shot of an infomercial would require enough alcohol to drown an elephant in.
I love her but I can’t believe she hooked up with McSteamy. McSteamy is way too hot for her!

Just in response to Michael’s comment….I loved that part. Frankly, Callie is an amazing symbol of free, liberated women everywhere. I too, love Callie. She may not be as skinny as Meredith, or as devilishly attractive as Addison but she still works what she has and isn’t afraid of being herself. She is the epitome of what women should be and is a perfect role model for many young girls out there. She is strong and proud and confident. And for that, I love her. McSteamy was clearly drawn to her for her confidence. I’m only about a buck 20 myself, but can only dream of having the confidence in my day to day life that Callie has.

Callie is one of them that make the show! She is great and more realistic in this world!
I too think Callie is gorgeous. It’s soo good to see a curvy latina on a show that’s as popular as grey’s. I would LOVE to have her figure. As for the comment left by Michael, you are pathetic. I think it’s gross that all women strive to be stick thin, and that most of them have eating disorders to reach that goal just to impress assholes like you.
This comment is specifically for Michael, on the assumption that, your ignorant rhetoric belies the fact that you are no doubt a pre-pubescent 12-year-old boy, I was initially going to temper my comments with a bit of respect and not give you the thrashing you soundly deserve, however, given the fact that I sincerely doubt that a 12 y/o boy would be watching Grey’s I’m going to go with the gut instinct that you are probably well over 12 y/o and no doubt a grown up, at least on some level, physically (probably not so much between the legs and the verbiage is a weak attempt at compensating for lacking of skill and equipment to be a real man) although mentally that’s clearly up for debate. Callie is the girl I always wanted to be, the no nonsense, head on straight, doesn’t care what others think about her type of girl. The one who spoke her mind. The girl nobody dared to mess with because they were afraid of retribution. Honestly, I hope she has some reason to stay. but, it does kind of seem to me that after everything that’s happened between callie and george she has no reason to stay. It seems to me that the only thing that’s got her still here is her job. But, I don’t know. I must admit I did not start watching Grey’s Anatomy until this season so, I definetly have a lot to get caught up on. I started watching pretty much because sara was in the show. yes yes I know it’s not all about her. but she brings a different sort of chemistry to the show. And yes, the one who rivals bailey in attitude.
On another note, Sara’s performance as Lady of the Lake in monty python’s spamalot was FANTASTIC. She blew me away. There really are only a few actors who can sing a part that demands so much of someone vocally.

As a male, I have to say that I find Sara Ramirez to be one of the best looking actresses anywhere, and certainly the best looking on Grey’s (although, I do admit that is a bad picture of her here).
I don’t find fake, polished, anorexic little girls attractive, but maybe I’m in a minority, but I don’t believe I am — I’m fairly sure that most real men like curves and women who look like they are actually healthy enough for sexual activity (i.e., they eat regularly), of which most “celebrities” and “models” really do not.
“Michael” is probably a 16 year old boy who really has no idea what a truly beautiful woman looks like, aware of only the distorted, backwards ideal that American mass media has sold him.
I, for one, hope that more real women like Sara Ramirez are cast on American TV. Gorgeous.
