Interview with Brad and Angelina’s photographer

Brent Stirton is a name you may not know, but he’s a professional photographer affiliated with Getty Images and he was the one who went to Namibia to shoot the photos of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.

Neither People nor Getty credited the photographer behind the Jolie-Pitt twins’ photos so no one is 100% sure who shot the spread, but many people are pretty well convinced it was Stirton again. He was asked directly in this video interview if it was his work and he very cleverly sidestepped the question – but if you ask me he was admitting to it without saying the actual words.

They also asked him his thoughts on the kind of money these sorts of magazine exclusives raise for good causes, such as the incredible charity donations Brad and Angelina make from the photos, especially compared to other work Stirton does. He seemed very kind, referring to Angelina Jolie as being one of the “few honorable people” in the celebrity world who has helped so many people in such a direct way.

Enjoy!

Thanks to the unnamed PDN person who contacted me to let me know about this clip.

(I’m an amateur photography freak so I went to check him out further. If you’re curious, you can see Brent Stirton’s stellar photography at his website.)

Docu film to further DIFF peace mission

The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced that documentary feature film, The Day After Peace, has been chosen as part of the Rhythm and Reels line up for 2008. This is in support of worldwide peace.

“The Day After Peace is a moving testament to the power of an individual and the perseverance of the human spirit. DIFF is an ardent supporter of films that address issues of conflict and promote global harmony. It is important to our mandate that we encourage screening and production of films that are meant for a wider audience raising general interest towards a cause of global concern,” said Masoud Amralla al Ali, Artistic Director of DIFF.

The Day After Peace charts the remarkable 10-year journey of award winning filmmaker Jeremy Gilley to establish a globally recognised annual day of ceasefire and non-violence. A day that allows peacekeepers and rescuers to go into war-torn areas and deliver the much-needed medical attention and survival amenities. The documentary features Jude Law, Angelina Jolie, the Dalai Lama, Annie Lennox and Kofi Annan, all of whom lent their support to his passionate efforts. The film’s breathtaking conclusion finds Gilley joined by Jude Law in Afghanistan, spearheading a massive vaccination against polio on Peace Day in 2007.

  2. By Jolie-Pitt Foundation Gives $1m to Human Rights Watch

(New York, September 22, 2008) – Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will give $1 million to fund Human Rights Watch’s work in Burma and Zimbabwe, Human Rights Watch said today. Their generous gift will allow Human Rights Watch, which accepts no government funding, to continue documenting and exposing horrifying abuses in both countries to bring pressure for change.

“Burma and Zimbabwe are two of the most repressive countries in the world and we need to increase international pressure on them to change,” said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch. “Brad and Angelina’s investment in our work at this critical moment will allow intensified efforts by our researchers to expose the repression that these governments try to keep hidden and by our advocates to generate the global pressure needed to improve people’s lives.”

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation grant will be used to fund research and advocacy in Burma and Zimbabwe. Human Rights Watch has worked for 15 years on Burma and for 10 years on Zimbabwe.

Human Rights Watch researchers have documented systematic abuses committed by Burma’s authoritarian military government as it clings to power, including the brutal crackdown on democracy protests in September 2007and the sham referendum conducted in the wake of the devastating Cyclone Nargis in May 2008. Burma recruits thousands of child soldiers as young as 10 denies the International Committee of the Red Cross access to its prisons, and still uses landmines, a weapon banned by most of the rest of the world. The government persecutes ethnic minorities and it plunders Burma’s vast resources, earning billions from sales of petroleum, timber, and gems, and enjoying cozy relations with governments and companies eager to exploit its natural wealth, while its population suffers in poverty and oppression.

Sherry, I think it’s even worth it to have it in a new thread.

Angelina learned from her Mom to be a giving person and Angelina and Brad’s children will learn from them. I was never aware of Marcheline’s different charities. Thanks for all this new information.

For some reason this video would not work for me but I agree with Irma that the people they associate with are the ones who know them the best.

People who worked or knows Brad & Angie only have good words & praise to these couple.Tabloids don’t have any idea how Brad & Angie are way beyond their reach. They can say & write negatives about them but we know they don’t have basis. I continue to pray for their well being & may God continue to bless them. I miss Angie & the kids.

He said he and Angie met through his work in Sierra Leone. Since then she seems to be very much trust him and whenever Getty covers their photoshoot Mr.Stirton does the work. 2006′s Cambodian village photoshoot was his and probably 2007′s Vietnam’s, too. He said his recent photoshoot with the family took 15 minites ? Good Job ! All photos look very natural and love is seen everywhere.

Always great to hear/read opinions from people who really ‘know’ them, either through work or personally.

Would someone very kind be able to describe what he says in the vide? I can’t make it play properly.

I loved his work, he has a great eye and apparently has been around the block once or twice. He has probably been around a lot of celebrities and he respects Brad and Angie

It’s obvious from the video and his words that he thinks highly of Angelina and Brad. He stresses how much and many more the Jolie-Pitts help than just his documentary photos – he’s all for it.

“Bret Stirton, the photographer who shot Brad Pitt and Angelina’s new kids, talks about that, even though he’s not supposed to. He says: “I know Angelina from my work in Sierra Leone… In a world of 15 minute celebrity, where people will use the humanitarian sector to maximize their publicity, she’s one of the few honorable people. I feel that any time that I can be of assistance to her, I will do it. I’ve seen where that money goes. It’s built a number of hospitals [and more] .” Stirton, who won an award for images of gorillas in the Congo, also says: “I could try and shoot good documentary for the rest of my life… and never get close to the kind of direct impact that that kind of money makes in people’s lives.” [MediaBistro]

How long do you think it will be before the majority of people wise up and rejects all the negativity that the tabloids & h8ters always spew? I know that there will always be die-hard anti-Angelina crazies, but the majority who’ve been affected and influenced by all the lies, falsehoods, prevarications – will they see the light one day?

Thanks sherry,i’m becoming a fan of his work.

I saw this on another site. I thought the interview was great. He is such an amazing talent. He did say that the shoot only took about 20 minutes. Angie and Brad were not trying to impress. No huge wardrobe or makeup team. They looked very natural and like everyone else. Which is exactly what they are. I really loved how he spoke about the 15 minute fame ****** who give for the moment, the event or the press. He spoke about how real and genuine they are. I will listen to someone like this who has had experienced with both (but especially Angelina) over the gossip rag or websites. I wonder why the people who hate them never stop to think about what their peers say about them. I have never read a negative comment from any other celebrity who know them directed towards them. Everyone want to work with them, and always speak so highly of them personally and professionally. That says it all for me. I admire the Brange…

Thank you for sharing this news.

  16. By Give Love, Give Life

Marcheline Bertrand was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1999, and during her seven and a half year effort to overcome the disease, she was treated by Dr. Beth Karlan, an internationally recognized gynecologic cancer surgeon, research scientist and Director of the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Research Institute. Marcheline and her colleague, John Trudell, developed the concept of Give Love, Give Life as a means to raise public consciousness about women’s cancers; their objective was – and is — to utilize music to raise the resources and awareness vital to combating ovarian and other gynecological cancers. The sanctity of women and the sacred gifts of love and life are at the heart of the Give Love, Give Life message.

Marcheline and John produced the first Give Love, Give Life concert in February, 2004 at the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood. Over the course of the next year, they together organized strategic support in the music and film community for Johanna’s Law, legislation to fund national outreach and education about the signs and symptoms of gynecological cancers. That legislation was signed into law on Friday, January 12, 2007.

Marcheline and John developed the idea for a high-profile concert with national talent following the 2004 benefit at the Roxy Theater. In the summer of 2006, the two partners joined with movie producer David Bushell, music industry legal representative Debra MacCulloch, All Tribes Foundation associate Faye Brown and other members of the Hollywood community to conceive of and begin production on the February 22 benefit.

Marcheline and John collaborated as partners on women’s issues outside of gynecological cancer. In 2003, they produced a benefit for Afghan women refugees on International Women’s Day in conjunction with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

So cool to see something like this. He’s a soldier for his cause and sees Angelina as an angel you can tell. How real……..thank you for putting this up

  18. By All Tribes Foundation

In 2001, Marcheline Bertrand, her daughter Angelina Jolie, and John Trudell established a private foundation, the All Tribes Foundation, to support the cultural and economic survival of Native peoples. The foundation has issued over $800,000.00 in grants for reservation-based programs that strengthen tribal ways of life and safeguard a future for Native communities. Marcheline served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Foundation until her passing; Angelina Jolie is President and John Trudell is the Advisor.

I actually teared up a bit. I was very moved to hear such serious but poignant words from him. He is no dilettante and by his comments neither is Brad and Angie. I always knew this but I loved having it affirmed by this soldier for good.
