Oprah Winfrey expands her domination in the media realm. In addition to The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo productions, her magazine and website, (plus her new YouTube channel), Oprah will be working with Discovery Communications to create her own TV network – The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). She will serve as chairman.
It’s a good deal – Variety reports that Oprah will have "full editorial control," Discovery will handle distribution, the network will be split between them 50/50, no cash changed hands and it will be an independent company. It’s almost perfect!
In a statement, Oprah said the network "is the evolution of the work I’ve been doing on television all these years and a natural extension of my show."
David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery Communications, is "to entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives."
I can’t wait to see how this develops!
