Frankly, I don’t think the talent is any better or worse this season than any other, though I think Cook is one of the brightest talents the show has ever had. But the entire concept is getting really stale, and it doesn’t help that the contestants keep getting saddled with terrible themes that force them to choose 40 year old songs.

i think that david cook has lots of talent and is really flexible in terms of vocal range, song arrangement, and not to mention his guitar skills. he has to win, or if somebody else does, this show is really “cooked”, planned or rigged or whatever else.

I think Paula’s critiques were better last night than the previous week. When you compare her this year to season 2 on Idol Rewind, there is a big difference. She was much, much better back then.
I agree with Emily in that there is just not as much interest in the contestants this year.

relax girl.. the auditions will be popular again as always next season and if the contestants are more interesting than this year, Im sure viewers will return. this season is kind of dead though, but hey, its only 2 weeks left anyway. I think next season they should shorten the season with a couple of weeks though. possibly have top 20 instead of top 24.. Im not so sure Idol really is losing viewers though. instead I think a lot of people (including me) just simply record and watch later. without the commercials. But Im also under the impression people dont care much about the contestants this year and thats why the Paula mistake got such huge attention. whereas this week, when she was toned down, nobody cared about the episode.

I feel that people in general just do not care at all about the competition anymore. just a small number of super fans care about the contestants, but they are not enough to make the ratings huge. Thats why the result shows has declined a lot in ratings.. nobody cares who will get kicked out. I think next year they need to make a few changes to make the Competition more exciting. Almost everyone I know only watches for Paula these days, (and since they dont vote for her, they often just record the show and fast forward the singing and just watch the judges) and they never even talk about the contestants. I also believe they need to make the result show just 30 minutes except maybe every 4th week when it can be 1 hour. But Idol fading, as in, declining with no hope to improve? no, I think it can come back strong next year. The auditions are always gonna be huge. And next season, there might be exciting contestants that people wanna watch, unlike this year.

did anyone else have trouble voting last night?? I couldn”t get through for Cook for over a half hour the machine said.that party won”t accept your calls. so I tried 5 his other no. and the voice not David”s said thankyou for voting for contestant 332.Wrong. That went on for an hour, everytime I dialed 1 or 5, the vote never went to him but other contestants. Please let me know.

I find this season to be boring. The talent level (IMO) is much less than previous years. I was a fan of Jordin Sparks throughout last season so I was excited when she won, although, it was not nearly as exciting/disappointing as Kelly/Justin, Clay/Ruben, Fantasia/Diana, Carrie/Bo or Katherine/Taylor. It started dwindling after season 4 to me. For the record, and not that it matters, my favs from each season: Kelly, Clay, Diana, Carrie, Katherine and Jordin. The show was much more enjoyable when it was the “diamond in the rough” that we witnessed being cut and polished into a sparkling jewel. (Ok, granted, that description is a little over the top. LOL) This year, I haven’t really seen a change in the contestants and there seems to have been too much prior “polishing”. Does that make sense?

Jeanne, I was also excited about the Katharine McPhee/Taylor Hicks final, but since both of them have been major disappointments, it may have started the end of American Idol as ratings for season 6 were down and season 7 has been worse.The fact that Katharine McPhee lied to her fans so many times was another reason fans have lost faith in there idols.With the way the voting is on idol, its not the best singer who wins, but the most popular, and like this year when they crown Archuleta the winner he will become a flop also as far as a recording career.I don’t even watch Idol anymore since they cut Kristi Lee Cook who will turn out to be the Daughtry of season 7.Did Paula Abdul prove the show is rigged? Who cares?

I agree. Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks was the last time I felt excitement. Last year’s season, i dont know, i wasnt a fan, although i thought Blake was interesting. I just lost interest. This year, contestants left have their uniqueness but there is something in the show that bores me. I guess a major factor would be the themes. If only they don’t do classic music 3-4 weeks straight, it would help. Also, it’d be great to see a mentor – someone from mainstream, like Mariah weeks ago, and let Idols sing mainstream music or billboard chart toppers of the 21st century or anything new.
