"Is Kate Hudson Responsible for A-Rod's Boost at the Plate?"

I found this article on Popeater.com, comparing the effect of Kate Hudson on A-Rod’s performance to Jessica Simpson’s effect on Tony Romo’s playing.

In the article, sports writer Jesse Spector, who writes for the New York Daily News, was asked to compare the effects. His response?

“So far, Kate Hudson has definitely been a better good-luck charm for A-Rod than Jessica Simpson was for Tony Romo, but anything happening with A-Rod short of breaking his leg would be an improvement over Romo’s time with Jessica,” claims Spector who compares Simpson to Kim Basinger’s jinx-happy diva in ‘The Natural.”

I still for the life of me do not understand how any of this can effect an athlete’s performance. I’m looking for input here. Are any of you athletes or the significant others of athletes? If so, let me know if any of this speculation is relevant at all!
