Well Papa Joe Simpson is getting flack all over for causing problems with his daughter’s relationships. Or Jessica’s, to be specific. We told you a couple weeks ago that it was Papa Joe’s meddling that was driving Jessica and Tony apart.
Several sites, including MSN and the LA Times have now run stories on this issue as well.
Access Hollywood even ran a clip devoted to Papa Joe’s intrusive nature:
Here’s the part that I find interesting. Do you notice how Ashlee really isn’t a part of this story? Yeah, sure, they talk about the wedding pictures that ran in People, but really, that’s something every celeb manager pushes for. Besides that, it didn’t break Ashlee and Pete up.
There’s no doubt that Joe has gotten opportunities for both daughters, as any manager should. But it’s only Jessica’s love life that he’s really messed up. He’s made crude stage parent comments about her body (remember the “DD” dity?) and he pushed for her and Nick to have that reality show when they were married all of twelve minutes.
For Joe’s part, he’s said that he’s not , “They [Ashlee and Jessica] don’t call me and ask me. They call me and tell me.”
I think the question isn’t whether Joe Simpson is a buttinsky with the girls, but whether Jessica can stand on her own two feet for the first time in her life.

Great points!
Yes, I agree with you. I think this family has been all about making it in show business so they all probably talk candidly about their bodies and talents and whatever.
Plus, you’ve brought up a great point. Joe Simpson IS actually a great businessman. He’s pushed both these girl’s careers farther than they would have gone with someone else.
I think Jess just needs to get used to taking control of her own life, but she’s used to sitting back and letting Joe make decisions for her.
I think that the reason Ashlee isn’t mentioned much is because it’s all about Jessica and Tony right now. Plus, I think Ashlee has a little more control over her life than Jessica. Jessica was the star that took off fast and at a younger age. And she is the one who broke into the business first. Kind of like trial and error with her, so when Ashlee started to act and then sing, they already knew what to expect in Hollywood and the business aspect as well. Jessica was used to having her parents do everything for her, I don’t think she knows how to function on her own. I think Ashlee does because she was probably left to do her own thing when Jessica was being doted on by their parents, and I think Ashlee is a lot stronger too.
But in all honesty, I think their dad is kind of a good business man. I mean, he keeps selling things off to make money, which is smart, because he knows people will buy it/read it, whatever. He and his daughters are probably the ones laughing to the bank. I mean, if I made over a million dollars from selling my wedding photos to a national magazine, I’d be flattered, and happy that people were stupid enough to pay money to see my wedding details.
Sometimes I think Joe crosses the line, but the Simpsons always claim how close of a family they are, and how they talk about almost anything with each other. So maybe Joe saying something about Jessica’s breasts doesn’t sound normal to most people. What is normal for their family might not abnormal for someone else. I’m not saying that I agree here. But you know what I mean? Plus, if someone else’s manager who was not related to them said a comment like this, it would be forgotten in a day. The only reason that it is constantly brought up is because Jessica and he are related, and the Simpsons in general right now are a hot gossip topic.
However, that being said, I think there also needs to be a fine line between parent and manager. And known that if you make comments about your daughter’s breasts for the world to hear, it’s going to be kicked around in the media and seriously skewed. They should know that!!!!!
