Is The CW eyeing a Gossip Girl spinoff?

CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff confirmed Thursday that it is looking at ways to spin off hit Gossip Girl for its next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ostroff told THR that the network is in discussions with producers of the WBTV/Alloy-produced show to see how a new series could be done, but nothing has been finalized, Ostroff said. Show executive producers are Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

"If it’s the right idea, we’d all embrace it and be enthusiastic," Ostroff said. "But nobody more than Josh and Stephanie want to make sure there’s the right idea that they can wrap their arms around and really be excited about."

Sources are telling Variety that the possible Gossip Girl spinoff would not be “The It Girl,” the Gossip Girl book series’ own spinoff which focuses on Jenny Humphrey’s character.

Rather, the spinoff would likely focus on one of the show’s nine regular characters — or a new character could be introduced through the pilot.

Those nine regular characters are: Serena (Blake Lively), Dan (Penn Badgley), Blair (Leighton Meester), Jenny (Taylor Momsen), Chuck (Ed Westwick), Nate (Chace Crawford), Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), Lily (Kelly Rutherford) or Rufus (Matthew Settle).

While I love EVERYTHING Gossip Girl, and definitely would watch a Gossip Girl spinoff, I don’t want to lose one of my main characters — especially if it’s Blair, Chuck, Serena or Dan. Personally, I hope they introduce a new character for the spinoff.
