MTV has an interesting article about their most anticipated films of 2008, and (quite rightly) one of them is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. However, they went a little further and suggested that this might be the film for Daniel Radcliffe to get his Oscar nod:
[A]ll eyes are on director David Yates as he attempts to bring them to life while matching the book’s emotional impact. Last year’s “Order of the Phoenix” gave us darker imagery and dramatically heftier acting from the leads. Now, with the magical series winding down, could “Prince” be the film that finally stirs up Oscar buzz for Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and/or Emma Watson? With enormous sets like the underground cave that houses one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, and new characters that include Jim Broadbent’s enigmatic potion master, Horace Slughorn, Yates certainly has his work cut out for him. If only there were a spell that could transport us to November.
What do you think? Do you think this might be the one that sends Daniel to the Oscars?

I see an oscar in Rupert Grint’s future but not for Harry Potter. That guy is really very naturally talented and with the right role he could definitely be great.
I could see one more for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson! Rupert Grint is my favourite but i wouldnt say he woul get an Oscar for doing Harry Potter, although you get a depth of his character in the books its unfair that you can’t in the books! All three are amzaing! Love the books!
Really Carmen? I never knew a fictional character could generate oscar buzz! If you ask me, DANIEL RADCLIFFE, the actor, definetly has Oscar buzz in his future. He’s also got TONY AWARD buzz in his future thanks to Equus. He is extremely talented, and every role he picks is amazing and very well calculated to cultivate the resume that dreams were made of. He was stunning in December Boys, My Boy Jack, OOTP, Equus, and he will be in Equus again, AND in the last two HP movies. I don’t know if HP will get Oscar buzz because the Academy can’t seem to appreciate the wonderment and impact of the films. I see Oscar buzz for THE JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION, where Dan will play Dan Eldon. This has Oscar all over it. As for Emma (I think she is a good actress, but not great), I think her time will come when she is ready. Rupert is a very light hearted, comedic actor. He is fun to watch but I wouldn’t put him above and beyond others. I also wouldn’t be so rude as to bitch slap everyone else. It must be so difficult for you to watch the HP films seeing Daniel Radcliffe in them. After all he is every frame. I offer my deepest condolences to you and your sanity.

Adaora, based on your jumping to conclusions, it is clear you see Dan as Harry Potter exclusively and incorrectly assumes that everyone does too. If you read what I wrote again and this time replace the word “Harry Potter” with “The Harry Potter movies” it will help your comprehension (I do not see Rupert getting an oscar for his performance in the Harry Potter movies because he’s not given anything to work with that would be oscar worthy) and perhaps you will realize that your little attack has nothing to do with me but your sensitivity to your knowledge that many people do not think Dan Radcliffe is a good actor and that he got a lot of buzz in Equus simply because he was 17 years old and naked, showed naked pictures and managed to pull off an adequate performance while naked and that’s impressive. As far as I know most people praised the psychologist. Also, stage acting is different from movie acting which means maybe he should stick to stage acting if he’s good at it. Futhermore, the movie he came in outside of Harry Potter, December Boys, was a huge flop given the amount of promotions he did and I don’t know how critically acclaimed it was (since you’re sensitive to everything Dan does I’m sure you’ll know) but since I don’t see Dan fans or anyone else spouting good information about it I can only assume the performance was not impressive. I wish Dan the best for his new project and in Equus in the future but as I said in my previous post, Rupert Grint is a naturally talented actor and I see an oscar in his future just based on his performance in Driving Lessons, a movie he filmed in only 6 weeks, if he gets the right role or even wants to act in an oscar worthy role (sometimes they take too much and he may not want to do it). Since I’ve never seen Dan in anything where he showed good acting skills worthy of oscar mention, having only ever seen him in Harry Potter, where he does not act that well, I cannot comment on him and I did not in my original post.
Daniel and Rupert i’m sure both of them r going to win an oscar in the future.Guys let’s be practical everyone in Harry Potter did really well and whoever win the oscar it would truly be for the entire team:))))))))
))
well GOOD LUCK to all of them
Well said Carmen! Adaora…tsk tsk. Director alfonso curan and many reviewers/critics have said that it is rupert who is the real star of the trio. the one with the most potential and talent. look at what rupes is given to work with (very little) compared to dan in the series. and rupes continues to outshine, outdo, and outperform. rupes is constantly praised for his comic timing. his talent for using only his facial expressions to convey his emotions is impeccable. his time will come. harry potter = daniel radcliffe by default. essentially it is his movie. and after him it’s emma’s but only because of her gender (one leading man, one leading lady kind of thing). her screen time is just as scarce as rupes. but eventually it will definitely be rupes that takes the oscar or at least he will be the one that deserves it.
This story sounds convincingly! I agree with you in this case.
