I wanted to start a new topic on the blog where we discuss various plot points of the Twilight series, and I’m going to start with a doozy!
How do you feel about Jacob Black imprinting on Renesmee Cullen?
I’ve always had mixed feelings on this topic. I guess it’s a nice and tidy way to wrap up Jacob’s love for Bella and leave the readers not feeling bad for him. But the whole concept freaks me out a little!
And I also wonder why Bella never brought up the topic with Jacob before it happened. Like, “Hey, I can’t be in a relationship with you if you’re going to go imprint on someone else in the future. And since you obviously haven’t imprinted on me, it’s going to end up being someone else.” You would think after seeing how Leah ended up, that Bella would have been concerned about being dumped at some point if she ended up dating him!

i think that it is so rude! i mean come on he leaves bella for her daughter! i mean its her daughter!!!! i think it is also kind of strange…
I think that Jacob imprinting on Renesmee was a pleasent suprise!Because if he lost Bella forever he has Renesmee to be with.Plus,it added supise and twist to the story even though she did foreshadow it with Quil and Claires Imprint.
Sue, I remember the bit about Quil and definitely caught that foreshadowing (although I wasn’t expecting Renesmee until it happened!) And I guess it “works” in that they both won’t die for a while … but I still found it odd!
I did find Jacob inprinting on Renessmee an interesting spin to the story but, after reading Breaking Dawn for the second time, I caught the story of Quil imprinting on his own “little girl” too. So Stephanie was almost warning the reader that this common idea in imprinting. It is definitely different but, if he can’t have Bella then this is his next best thing?? The tricky part is Renessmee may never grow older than 12, so what then? That does make it a little weird and makes you want to ask Stephanie what the thought behind it was.
I just want them to make Breaking Dawn into a movie though, because it is such a good book.
