Jake Weber doesn't mean to be your go-to spooky guy

20090911_zaf_a75_201.jpgJake Weber recently did a great interview with Star News Online about his career, including Medium and other roles that he’s had. The writer brings up a good point: with Weber’s roles in Dawn of the Dead, The Haunting of Molly Hartley, American Gothic, and of course, Medium, he tends to do a lot of work in the supernatural realm. Apparently, this is not by design. Weber says, “It’s so random and coincidental that I ended up doing so much supernatural stuff. [...] I’m a working man. I go where the work is.”

Right now, of course, the work is on Medium, where Weber talks about how strong Joe and Allison’s marriage is, and how creator Glenn Gordon Caron really made that a priority, despite his own personal problems. “Glen was writing this as his marriage was breaking up, and I thought it was very big-hearted and optimistic of him to write such a positive relationship as his own first marriage was coming apart. I think it’s the biggest strength of the show.”

The best part though, is what he wants to see Joe do on Medium. When asked if it’s time for Joe to be possessed, since Allison and Ariel have both gone through it, he says, “Yeah, it would be fun. Yeah, absolutely!” Wouldn’t that be a spectacular episode? I don’t know about you, but I would love to see a Joe DuBois possession episode. The writers need to get on that, stat!

I did add American Gothic to my online dvd rental service but supposedly the episodes are all in the wrong order so I’m in no rush to get see it.

I do love the portrayal of Allison and Joe, it’s nice to see a depiction of marriage where you know the writers won’t turn to an affair, just to keep it interesting…not! They can be cranky with each other but we know they’ll compromise.

I’m always amazed at how they manage to make the dream sequences, pillow talk novel after so many episodes. The scenes where they catch up on their days drinking beer after the children are asleep are amongst my favourites

The realistic portrayal of family life is what keeps me tuning in, Joe finding the camera in pink fur, a lived-in normal sized house where things aren’t always pristine and the kids speaking like actual kids, i.e when Allison corrects Bridgette- “you don’t pour good, you pour well”.

I love how Joe is a devoted and involved father but also shown to be intelligent. He is in many ways the family’s rock.

I have no idea how the writers would pull of Joe being possessed.

I agree with Linda on all aspects of Joe and Allison’s marriage. That is honestly the primary reason I tune into Medium. I love the family dynamic. I love Joe and Allison. I love how cute they are together and how they actually communicate with each other, unlike other tv show couples.

I think what makes them so amazing is because the characters are based off of real people whose marriage is a great one.
