Hosts don’t say anything that is not agreed by both parties, it’s something that has been scripted and agreed on, sometimes even rehearsed.
These are schemes to publicize someone in the media.
It will be naive to believe that Ryan Phillippe got offended, etc.

[...] L’acteur Ryan Phillippe invité du célèbre “Saturday Night Live” de Jay Leno a eu droit à une vraie séance d’humiliation en direct. Alors qu’il venait faire la promotion de son dernier film “Stop Loss”, l’animateur lui a tenu des propos ambigus en insinuant que l’acteur était gay. En lui désignant une caméra, Monsieur Leno a carrément demandé à l’acteur de faire comme si il s’adressait à son “amant gay” puis lui a demandé d’avoir l’air “le plus gay possible”. Plus que mal à l’aise, Ryan Phillippe qui pour mémoire à été marié pendant 8 ans à l’actrice Reese Witherspoon, a tout de même su garder son sang froid. Voir la vidéo ici. [...]
