Have you ever been to Jennifer Lopez’s Pasadena restaurant, Madre’s? If you haven’t, you’re too late to visit now! J-Lo has closed Madres down after six years. Apparently a sign was placed on the front door that said, “Madre’s will be closed Monday through Sunday starting July 1st, 2008, until further notice.”
Jennifer opened Madre’s in April 2002 as a way to celebrate her Latin heritage. The menu and atmosphere of the restaurant were inspired by Jen’s grandma Julia Rodriguez.
No reason was given for closing the restaurant. One could speculate that with her twins now she really doesn’t have time to oversee a restaurant (especially one across the country). Another reason could be the death of her grandmother last October.
Jennifer was very involved in the building of Madre’s, and met with contractors on the design and construction.

She also met with designer Ashwell to give the restaurant that Shabby Chic feel. It had a real homey yet classic look.
The opening of the restaurant had many of J-Lo’s famous friends. Rumor has it Ben Affleck was the one that gave her the idea for the name. Here he is at the opening:

No word yet on whether Jen will reopen Madre’s at some point in the future.
