Jennifer Lopez has said that having her twins has inspired her to do better. She wants to help improve the world in any way she can, but especially by helping kids. But who thought she’d actually appear at a graduation event to show her support?
A group of eighth graders at PS 37, a school for autistic children, love Jen’s music and dance moves. So they began to write letters to Jen asking her to come to their school. Where most of us wouldn’t really expect her to be there, the kids never had a doubt that she’d show. Their teacher, Ms. Amati, says, “From the minute we wrote the letters, they just automatically thought she would come.”
In preparation of the event, the 10 and 11-year olds practiced singing and dancing to “Let’s Get Loud” to perform on graduation day. Ms. Amati said, “The kids don’t even really understand how famous she is. They just really like her singing and dancing.”
Of course, choosing a Jennifer Lopez song to perform at the grad event wasn’t just a coincidence. Jen’s mom, Guadalupe Lopez, used to teach kindergarten at the school.
Jen watched the performance, and then visited with the kids and their families after the event. (There’s a video from their appearance here.) I’m sure it was the thrill of a lifetime for the class!
