Jezebel Picks Dean Forester As One Of The "Worst Fictional Dudes of The Decade"

I promise this’ll be the last “end-of-decade” post! Well, I can’t promise that, but since 2010 is almost here, I think we’ll get a break from this for a few days, at least. And this time, it’s hilarious. Hortense of Jezebel picked Dean Forester of Gilmore Girls as one of the “worst fictional dudes of the decade” in a list posted last week called “Your Boyfriend Sucks.” Here’s the hilarious description of why Dean made it there, written from Dean’s point of view:

“I know I dumped you in front of the entire town, accusing you of having feelings for the rebel dude in the leather jacket, but I wasn’t wrong, was I? And now that he’s broken your heart, I’m back to help you put it together again. So what if I’m married? I don’t love her. I love you. I’ve always loved you. I was your first love, remember? Remember that time we stayed up reading books together in 9th grade? And when I built you a car that time? I care about you so much.

That’s why I’m willing to cheat on my new wife in order to be the guy you lose your virginity to. Because we have something special. I was willing to wait for you (well, I mean, I got married at 18, but I was willing to emotionally wait for you) while you were dating that douchebag because I knew he’d screw it up. You’re too good for him. You belong with me. Well, at least you belong with me until I catch you partying with your rich friends. How could you do this to me? I have no money! I’m not a part of your fancy pants world! Why must you always push me to break up with you in front of your friends? Never talk to me again…or at least not for another couple of years. You had your chance, and you blew it. You’re a terrible human being. I’m going to call my ex-wife now. At least she understands me. Or she will, once I convince her to.”

Do you think Dean was one of the worst fictional dudes of the decade? Or is Jess up for that title? This monologue doesn’t make him sound too hot.

I agree with it! He was okay in the first season but as Rory grew up he didn’t. He married a girl he didn’t love to get back at her. Despite me being an avid Jess fan, I found Rory becoming the other woman at the end of the 4th season repulsive. I know she was lonely, and Jess broke her heart, but it completely wrecked her character. She became whiney and annoying in the fifth season and completely lost her way. Ultimately, I think Dean was a dud. Both Jess and Logan did show some mature development, Dean was just became slightly pathetic.

I think calling dean “slightly pathetic” is being far too lenient. This guy was so lame, for me, it made the show often difficult to watch. The title is more than well deserved.

I think Logan is worse than Dean. Jess is my favorite for Rory especially once he did some growing up!

Viciously brillant and hilarious [and I actually liked "early" Dean]. Emily and Richard would be so proud to welcome Jezebel to their family!! This makes the ballarina review seem tame by comparison…..

I completely and totally agree with it. I’ve always hated Dean. He was rather perfect up until the dance in the first Season. :D

Like mcityrk and Cathy, I liked season one / early season two Dean; then loathed what he became.

Unlike the (actual!) writer of the article, I actually did like the scene at the dance because it was the first time in ages that Dean had shown a little self-respect. Also, it was hardly “in front of the entire town” as pretty much all of them were asleep or gone home (or in Taylor’s case – drunk)!

    But – the rest? Yeah.

That is so perfect, I’ve always hated Dean (I can’t even watch Supernatural b/c I can only think of Dean when I see JP [not going to attempt to spell his last name]). Jess on the other hand, was and always will be my favorite!!! I like Logan too (he’s kinda a mix of Dean’s very very few good qualities and Jess’ good qualities), but Jess was in my opinion truly the best for Rory.

I never thought about it that way, but written like that i have to agree. Rory dated some lets just say ‘interesting’ boys. If i were Rory i would never have gotten involved with him once he married Lindsy – i especially would have had no intention to go to the wedding (Rory was going to go until luke stopped her – i would have stopped her to!)

I never thought about it that way either, but I also agree. And I agree that I didn’t like what Rory and Dean did at the end of the 4th season. It seemed completely out of character for her. I think Jess was the right guy for Rory. And as for Logan, I didn’t like him with Rory at all, but he definately had more than one good moment, so I wouldn’t put him on the list.

I only liked Dean in the first season really. He was okay in some episodes later but he definitely was not my favorite character. Jess was my favorite completely for Rory and Logan was ok. I liked Logan better towards the end because you could really see his love for Rory. The only thing with the Jess and Rory relationship is I couldnt see them together after she met Logan. If Luke and Lorelai ever got married, in a way they would be cousins by marriage…which is weird to me if they were still dating but at the same time, i love their relationship.
so yeah i agree that dean is the worst

I liked Dean as well in the first season, but after the dance you could see he was becoming or was all along possesive. Also he started most of the confrontations with Jess. Jess was interesting, the bad boy type. I am torn between Logan and Jess. Dean just wanted Rory, Jess wanted her but was just not 100% positive until it was too late and Logan really worked hard to get Rory. I think they would of been good together. He was kind of like the male Lorelai. But yes Dean really took a nose dive in the likablity dept.

Dean was good in the first season but the character got way to possessive of Rory and it became a drag to watch I actually was glad in the 24hr marathon that he dumped her and she got together with Jess, he got soo boring. So I agree with him being ranked as one of the worst characters. I prefered Jess and even Logan better!
