Joel Madden Raises More Hope for the Congo

Raise Hope for the Congo has put together the video below to help promote their organization.

Raise Hope for the Congo is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in the Congo by supplying them with food and water and by creating a safer environment for them to live in. Joel has been involved with the group for the past couple years, even visiting the Congo with UNICEF to learn more about the work Raise Hope for the Congo is doing.

In the video, Joel talks about the Congo and what his fans can do to help during a Good Charlotte concert. He explains what our generation is doing to aid this problem, and what we can do to stop it.

I’m not 100% sure if the live feed in the video is a concert or a lecture Joel is giving. While I think it’s awesome Joel is so involved and passionate about this project, I’m a bit torn about how I feel about him using a concert as a platform to speak about his issues. We have so many other ways Joel can connect with his fans about this. But then, where else will you have the rapt of 10,000?

Actually I think it is great that Joel is standing up and preaching at concerts! KEEP ON! I do independent research so I am well aware of what is happening in the Congo, but this is the first time I had really heard it addressed in public. Our corporate controlled media doesn’t tell us this on tv or radio.. the true problems in the US and the world. We need to be responsible with what we buy as consumers (and diamonds are another no no)

joel has always been more about his image than about his music, but then so are most “stars” these days in the american idol generation. they’re more into being appealing “products” than serious, talent , school-of-hard-knocks musicians that lived hand-to-mouth and played their hearts out on the bar scene and really developing themselves before making it big on their talent and a bit of luck.

now, it’s a disney product production machine business model for new bands. Good Charlotte tries so hard to be punk, emo, rock, blah-blah-blah, but ultimately, scrape away the hyped-packaging and the music, lyrics and vocals are just not that good. and the worst part is they even believe their own hype!!!

joel better make the most of it now, because good charlotte is quickly becoming irrelevent. with itunes, etc, nobody actualy buys albums any more so the only way for musicians to make money is to tour. if GC keeps screwing around and taking their bookings for granted, they will continue to lose their audience willing to pay for a live show.
