Well, you gotta give the girl credit – she’s a hard worker. Here’s an interesting story about American Idol champ, Jordin Sparks and the progress she’s making on her new album:
Jordin Sparks makes good use of a day off.
American Idol Jordin SparksThe Glendale, Ariz., teen vocalist and current “American Idol” champ spent eight hours Thursday working on music for a forthcoming album at Omaha’s Rainbow Recording Studios, 2322 S. 64th Ave.
“She’s on the road, recording songs when they get a free day,” said studio owner and engineer Nils Anders Erickson.
Sparks, 17, was in town to perform Friday at the Qwest Center Omaha with fellow finalists from the sixth season of “American Idol.”
Erickson said Sparks’ management called him a few days before she arrived in Omaha to reserve his studio.
“We had exactly the right equipment that they wanted,” he said. “Our studio was compatible with what they’re using.”
Rainbow, whose clients have included Boyz II Men, 311 and Stevie Wonder’s band, recently upgraded its Pro-Tools digital recording software.
A crew of about a half-dozen people, including “Idol” finalist Melinda Doolittle, accompanied Sparks, whom Erickson called “just the sweetest person.”
“She’s bubbly, full of energy,” he said. “The coolest part is she really can sing. She probably nailed the tracks within three takes. She was very professional.”
Rainbow’s Clint Lawrence served as assistant engineer for Sparks’ session.
Studio employees ate lunch with Sparks. Later in the day, she snapped photos of pictures hanging on Erickson’s door of Gloria Estefan, 311 and Boyz II Men.
“She said, ‘Oh, my gosh, famous people have been here,’” Erickson recalled. “I just thought it was really cute.”
