TV Guide had the opportunity to talk to Gossip Girl Executive Producer Josh Schwartz, who gave some hints about what we might see in the second half of the third season.
“You’re really going to see a real emotional arc from Chuck. I think Jenny and Chuck are really going to be driving a lot of story as we move into the back half of the season,” Schwartz told TV Guide.
According to Schwartz, Jenny’s (Taylor Momsen) troubles are just beginning.
“She’s still very much a teenage girl, she’s grown up with these kids who are older than her and always wanted to be a part of that, but she’s going to find out that she’s not quite as adult and grown up as she thinks she is,” Schwartz told TV Guide.
As for Chuck (Ed Westwick), the mysterious woman at his father’s grave in the last episode “The Debarted,” is going to be a big part of it.
“We really want to move Chuck back into the forefront of the ensemble for a portion of these back episodes. You’ll have to watch and see if it’s his mother,” Schwartz told TV Guide.
As for Serena (Blake Lively), Schwartz said she is trying to make sense of what is missing from her life, causing her to jump from guy to guy and switching careers. But can she redeem herself?
“That is her journey for the rest of the season. It’s a journey of redemption and maturity and understanding why she’s doing the things she’s doing and taking back control of that,” Schwartz told TV Guide.
No scoop on the Nate-Serena relationship, sorry.
Serena’s quest for her father is still going to continue though.
“Obviously he resurfaced in Lily’s [Kelly Rutherford] life and was in that letter that caused so much controversy at Christmas and Thanksgiving. That has definitely been set up,” Schwartz said.
For those who like Dan and Vanessa together, Schwartz said they are going to explore their relationship while trying to maintain their friendship.
“Can they have feelings for each other and still remain friends is going to be a big question that we’re going to tackle. I really like them together. I think you can bet on them exploring the complexities of their friendship,” Schwartz told TV Guide.
As for the controversy over the threesome with Dan (Penn Badgley), Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and Olivia (guest star Hilary Duff), Schwartz said he liked the storyline because it had “big emotional repercussions for the characters.”
When asked if there will be future plot lines that will cause this kind of controversy, Schwartz said to “keep your eye on little Jenny Humphrey.”

Hey, I’m a huge fan of gossip girl. See i live in Ireland and we can’t watch gossip girl until it comes out on boxset so this website is great for me to catch up on my gossip. I think series three sounds really juicy and typical gossip girl. I’m dying for the whole ‘Bold Jenny’ story that should be good.
