Kate Winslet Break Up Update: Rebecca Hall’s Role

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes may be trying to put on a brave face in the wake of their very public break up, having their lawyers announced Monday that they “had separated earlier this year,” and throwing around the word “amicably,” but that doesn’t stop tongues from wagging that a third party may have played a part in their split.

A report in the British paper The Daily Mail said Kate had grown tired of Sam’s close friendship with young actress Rebecca Hall, ultimately leading to the break up. Rebecca, who you might recognize from Vicky Cristina Barcelona as the girl who’s not Scarlett or Penelope, has also offered Sam “a shoulder to cry on,” as he has dealt with the collapse of his marriage, the story added.

Of course, “friends” of Kate and Sam were quick to deny the rumors about Rebecca, and some sources even said Kate was the one who wanted the divorce, after growing tired of Sam. Who to believe?

Reps for Kate, Sam and Rebecca did not return requests for comment.
