Katharine McPhee Pulls a Chris Sligh

There should be a law against this or something because it is really starting to irritate me. American Idol “losers” (you know what I mean) love to go on and on about how they didn’t really want to win or that they didn’t want to sing something that eventually flopped and blah, blah, blah.

GOOD GRIEF! When Chris Sligh did his whole “I wasn’t in this to win and I was gonna quit anyway” interview, it really ticked me off. I hate it when something fails for someone and then they act like it had nothing to do with them or that they planned it that way all along. LAME! Katharine McPhee, the beautiful season 5 runner-up, has had a rocky start on the charts. I actually really liked the song “Over It” and, while I never downloaded it, when I needed a fix, I would go to YouTube and watch the video. I think the main reason it didn’t perform as well as it could have is that it was released at a bad time. It’s an early summer song, if you know what I mean. The kind you want to listen to with the windows down while you think about the jerk who dumped you and how you wish you could show how wrong they were. Know what I mean?

Instead of just accepting that people liked it but just not enough to make it #1, Katharine had the following to say:

”Let’s just face it: Now that the first single [Over It] is pretty much over, I can now say that that wasn’t my favorite song. In the nicest way you can possibly say it, I didn’t want that song to be something that I was a part of. I don’t know how else to say it. ‘If I had let the record label make the record that they wanted to make, I think it would have been a completely different record. [The record label and Clive Davis] would have gone for more of like the Celine Dion big-ballad thing. Or the female version of Josh Grobin. Which is fine, but I think I’m so young, it’s not what I want to do right now. I think you can always do that. Like 10 years from now, I’ll only be 32, you can do that.”

Geez, Kat. You’ve got some loyal fans – people did buy that single and your album. Are you saying that those people were wrong to like something that you obviously hate so much? What does this quote mean?

Agreed, Amanda. Well, hopefully this won’t get her down and she’ll be alright. The sky’s the limit for this girl who I predict could be an amazing film actress.

yes Jeanne, the funny thing is that her album will go gold on the next media outlet reorders.(might have already?), and Over It is very close to going gold. I don’t quite understand why she said that? For a 1st album that along with her changing her music genre that we all knew her for, she has done quite well.

Amanda – There has been a drop off and I think that, for a debut album, Kat has done well. It’s unfortunate that all of the former Idol contestants have to be compared when they release an album. I really do like “Over It” but I am pretty sure that she says she didn’t want to have anything to do with it. It is possible that she just didn’t like it. Maybe it didn’t fit with what she wanted to be?

This quote by Katharine was stated incorrectly. She did not state it correctly. what she meant was that she is proud of the fact that she was able to introduce Katharine the RB/POP singer versus Katharine the Celene type of singer. Also because of timing RCA felt Over It was the 1st single and that Katharine had preffered Love Story. Summing it up, although her 1st album has not been a chart topper, it has done well enough to gain gold status anytime now, and Over It the single will also go gold.If you really take a hard look at the music world, there has been a drop off, except for Daughtry, not to many others have had great success either.

Interesting. I heard that “Open Toes” was supposed to be the next single and now it’s “Love Story.” Since you thought “Toes” should have been first, I’m curious to know what you think about this. It would be sad if she missed out due to poor management.

Personally, I think “Open Toes” should have been her first hit. “Over It” was cool, but I wouldn’t have put that out as a first.
