Kathy Griffin Adds to "Suck It" List

kg_pd_kathy_04 Go, Kathy Griffin! The Emmy-winning star of My Life on the D-List has filed a lawsuit against the owners of KathyGriffin.com, alleging the site makes unauthorized use of her name and image.

The lawsuit was filed Sept. 16 in Los Angeles Superior Court and seeks at least $100,000 in statutory damages under the Anti-Cybersquatting Act and for misappropriating her right of publicity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The harm to [Griffin] is direct and palpable," the lawsuit reads, adding the site was purposely designed to make viewers "confused into believing that [Griffin] authorizes, sponsors or somehow is affiliated with the…Web site."

Ok, I get all of that. I’d be ticked off, too, and the lawsuit is definitely called for under the circumstances. But, according to the story, the operators offered to sell the domain name to Griffin in July for a mere $3,500.

Why didn’t she buy it? Kathy, are you reading this? Care to jump in here?

More after the jump…

The site previously contained commercial content and click-through advertising. It’s now been stripped down and updated with just two lines: "Are you looking for Kathy’s official website? It’s located at kathygriffin.net."

I wonder if the domain name is still for sale.
