Kathy Najimy To Play Important Ugly Betty Role

5th Annual Runway For Life The hilarious Kathy Najimy has been cast in a very important role for Ugly Betty – she will be the orthodontist who takes off Betty’s braces, according to EW’s Ausiello.

And, taking a page from Lost , Najimy will have a parallel role  that of Betty’s guardian angel in an It’s a Wonderful Life style scene where Betty is shown what life would have been like had she been born with straight teeth.

Of course, having braces is only one aspect of Betty’s style, so if Betty ends up looking like America Ferrera on the red carpet at the Emmys during the fantasy sequence, they’d better have a darned good explanation.  BUT, it looks like this sequence would be a lot of fun, regardless.

Najimy is one of those actresses who makes Betty fans say, “I can’t believe she’s never been on the show!” If she plays the fairy godmother using the voice of Peggy Hill, I think I’ll die.  :)

The episode in question (4.17) will air March 24, three weeks before the series finale.

It’s exciting, and sad at the same time.  But I can’t think of a better person to cast in this role.

I wanted to add that I have always been able to see America Ferrera in Betty, and to see Betty in America Ferrera, if that makes any sense. The same is true for most actors and actresses who are made up for any given character, especially all of the actresses who have played all of the international Bettys over the past ten years. One notable exception from the movie world was Lynn Redgrave in “Gods and Monsters.” I watched that entire film without realizing that she was playing one of the main characters, and I know very well what Lynn Redgrave looks like. When I watched that movie, I just saw her character, not her. Also, if I hadn’t already known that Nicole Kidman was playing Virginia Woolf in “The Hours,” I am pretty sure that I wouldn’t have know that it was her. I think that part of the problem for me and all of the Bettys, from spending so much time on my International Bettybase, is that I have become so familiar with all of the actresses and their characters that I just have a natural association in my mind that connects them all.
