Both Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison were seen on the set of their new movie “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” today (July 27) in Melbourne, Australia. They were seen walking around together and were bundled up trying to stay warm. Katie was holding a cup of coffee, which hopefully helped against those cold Melbourne winds.
There are also some cute pictures of Katie getting her makeup touched up, reading over a script and chatting with her co-star Bailee.
Bailee plays the daughter of Katie’s boyfriend (Guy Pearce). “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is about a young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers creatures in her new home. The creatures want to claim her as one of their own. We won’t be able to see this film until sometime in 2011! Too far away.

I think it’s neat how “real” Katie looks. She seems down-to-earth…and interestingly, a LOT more so than when she first had Suri. Does anyone remember how into fashion she was with everything she wore at that time? Now it’s seems that she has relaxed into a hybrid of her “old self” and new self. She was always wearing dresses and heels and carrying baby Suri around through the streets of Paris. I remember thinking that she must feel she has to fit the “Mrs. Cruise” part. But after several years, she seems back to her more comfortable style of just being herself. What a relief.
I’d rather see someone be themselves anyday, even if their style is quirky…than to try to fit some role. Katie is a cool girl from Ohio..from a decent family…and just happened to become a movie star and marry into further stardom. But it’s neat that she’s actually returning to being more grounded. 
If these pics are from actual filming, I see that Katie is creating the continuity nightmare with her relaxed, natural, hair look, with its wandering parting as back in the ‘creek’ days.
I agree with mere, this is the Katie the looks to be much more the natural one we remember from the days when she always seemed to be having fun. Let’s hope we see more of this in the future (and a sibling for Suri?).
