Kate, a TomKatCrazy reader, mentioned that she had read that Katie Holmes signed on to star in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. I looked into it and sure enough, it’s everywhere! I’ve been away from my computer for most of the day (5 year old had to have a tooth pulled…not fun) and I miss BIG news like this!
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been able to find out about the movie. According to Variety, Katie has agreed to star in the thriller “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. The film is set to shoot this summer in Melbourne.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark" is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.
IMDB describes the plot as “A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.”
Okay, so I mentioned before I don’t like horror movies, but I think this is one I will have to suck it up, be brave and go see. I can’t miss Katie!

Melbourne is a really nice place, apparently the movie has a $50 million budget, and will be distributed by Miramax. Melbourne is very cold in the winter, more so than Sydney, we have a lot of beautiful beaches, the harbour and the Opera House is so beautiful, but Melbourne has beautiful places too, I hope Tom amd Katie get to do The Great Ocean Road drive, its magnificent, The Grampian Mountains, they have tremendous wineries, resturants, its very cosmapolitan. Ithink Katie might like Melbourne.
OMG……I WILL SO be watching this movie! I love thrillers/horror…..Icannot believe Katie is entering into my genre!!! Cannot wait! Also, I wonder how long Katie will be in Melbourne for…..wonder if TC/Suri will tag along?
I think Timothy Olyphant might be a good choice for her costar they worked together in “Go” and to me had good chemistry or maybe Orlando Bloom. Who do you think could work?
I heard Troy Nixey, a firsttime director, is directing the project. Anyone have any confirmation on that?
I think maybe Derek Luke. He and Katie were great togther in Pieces Of April.
Also maybe Hugh Dancy.

I love Scary movies! I’m so excited that Katie is finaly going to be in one…..I can’t wait to see it!

….”creatures” can someone expand on that? I love action/drama/horror….but there has to be a level of validity for me to like it, creatures…unless its ET, I am not sure if I would be open to this.

OHHH NO annie! That would be a bad idea IMHO. All the media will say is that Katie rode his coattails to get into the film! They’ll never even look at her performance objectively. It’ll be all about THEM rather than Katie. IMHO, she’s much better off working with anyone other than Tom at this point in her career. See can stand on her own two feet and it would be in her best interest as far as I’m concerned.
I know , they probably would tear her to pieces, but its a nice thought……….maybe one day.

Katie Holmes should really do a movie with james McAvoy. He has such an intense personality that comes with such a calmness and love. It is easy to love them both. They would be perfect on the screen together. I don’t think any one would disagree.
