Katie Holmes has the opening night of “All My Sons” behind her and can now focus on all of the performances ahead of her. From everything I have heard and read, opening night was a success for the entire cast. Katie spoke to PEOPLE after the performance, and answered some great questions about Suri, Tom and balancing her career with family.
(Photo above is of Katie arriving at the theater on October 18th.)
Read some excerpts from Katie’s PEOPLE interview below, as well as some candid shots of Katie.
Is Tom supportive? He comes [to the theater] a lot. He came to the dress rehearsal. I was so nervous, and I saw him out there, and he made me feel so much better. Every time he’s there, I just feel like it’s going to be okay.
Is it difficult balancing your theater work with being a mom? It’s a great schedule, because [Suri and I] get to spend the whole day together and then I go and do the play. Then I come home and we play some more!
And Suri had her own dressing room at the theater? Yeah, we have a dressing room that is transformed into a playroom. It has a little piano.
First motherhood, then a marathon, and now your Broadway debut. What’s your next big challenge? Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is KH ’s next big challenge? LOL.
She doesn’t cook, she doesn’t clean. She only give instruction. Perhaps Tom can even hire for her an event organizer to do everything. What’s the challenge Katie??
Love her boots! Sure would be nice to have her shoe & boot collection! She is one lucky lady. She looks really happy in most of her pics lately; I hope the fairytale lasts for her.
Commenting on style…is it me or does that blazer look too small?
Actually Looika, I read in an interview that she likes to cook. It’s a family tradition for her and her mom to get in the kitchen and make the dinner and bake pies; she did it last year for her extended family. Sounds like a tradition I would want to let someone else do and relax instead in my 35 million dollar mansion!
Fair enough then.
I never thought of Thanksgiving as a challenge
Cooking for 20-30 people isn’t a challenge or stressful? Plus, I’m sure everything is somewhat gourmet. No Thanks! I did it last year and I was in the kitchen ALL DARN DAY! The trick is to make things days in advance and freeze!
It can be stressful, but hardly “the next big challenge.” Besides, her mom probably does most of the work. LOL.
Have you ever cooked for a large group of people where everything has to turn out perfect? I call that the next big challenge! I read too that Katie does most of the cooking…never can tell if what you read is fact.
People are different, to some it is a challenge, to others it is not. No big deal. It will indeed be a time for Katie and her family to celebrate. So many blessings. I hope after that we get a sibling for Suri, Connor and Bella.
Okay, you have a point. Some people only cook the one or two times each year, so it’s possible.
