Variety is reporting that Katie Holmes has signed on to star in the comedy “The Extra Man”. She’s joining fellow actors Kevin Kline, Paul Dano and John C. Reilly. The movie is set to start shooting this February in New York.
The story centers on a failed playwright who begins supplementing his income by taking jobs as an escort for Upper East Side widows and who takes another aspiring playwright under his wing.
Could this be true?! Katie Holmes filming a movie already! This also means that Katie will be staying put in New York for a little while.
Stay tuned as this story develops. I’m going to do some digging around!

If this is true I wonder how Tom took it when Katie told him she wanted to do a movie that was going to be shot in NY and she would have to be there for another 8 weeks or however long it takes, I bet it went down like a ton of bricks. this is such a stupid thing I’m going to say now, but I wonder sometimes if Katie is going to get zapped out of his life, like the others .
I dont think it is stupid annie. You never know. But without knowing Katie( at all) I could see how happy NY made her….who knows, it will be interesting how it all pans out.
Annie, you’re seeing the light. Something’s up with these two. A young woman who started a family doesn’t just up and leave like that. She’s hungry for fame, not for family.
Good for Katie!! I’m really happy for her!! Kline, Dano and John C. Reilly are all excellent actors.
If Katie is happiest in New York and that’s where her current opportunities are, then that’s where she should be. Tom will just have to adjust if he does actually have a problem with it.
If there weren’t children involved, I’d say you’re right CR. The fact that she’s putting own needs over those of the children shows her true colors.

Tyler, I think you have to go to different studios or sets when you’re filming, like when katie made Mad Money in Louisiana. Then again , maybe she wants to do as much as she can , before having another child , which will take her out maybe for another 2yrs.
She must feel like she has to work now for fear that she won’t work again? Tick tock, tick tock, Tom is getting older by the day. He’s old enough now to be a grandfather, yet his young wife is putting her career ahead of her family. I’m beginning to think that they may not have more kids. This is weird.

I’m sure she’ll take Suri with her along with her usual nannies, drivers, maids, bodyguards, etc. The other children are not hers. Nicole Kidman is their Mother so they’re really not her responsibility, although I’m sure she cares for them. I really think its easier for someone like Katie than it is for the normal working Mother. Many of us work and have only our husbands for backup. She has an entire entourage.
Its about time Daddy Cruise took some responsibility for once. If she needs to be in NYC, then he can go as well or stay behind with his older kids as he did some of the time when she was in NY for AMS. Maybe he can even take Suri here and there so she can work. Wouldn’t that be nice! His career always seems to come first which I find very sexist.
Katie gets to work with Kevin Kline, and she is currently “striking while the iron’s hot” because she wants/needs to make good movie choices. And, I bet at this very moment she’s more interesting to producers since her Broadway run. If she waited 6 months she might not have the same prospects or allure. The movie biz is a youthful market!
