Katy Perry spoke with MTV UK News about singing like Christina Aguilera. I don’t know what preceded Katy’s comments about Christina, but she must have been asked something about comparing her voice to Christina’s.
In the interview, Katy shyly says if there were a sing off between the two, Katy MIGHT be able to find some soul deep inside…and then says, no, not really. Katy certainly wasn’t saying she could sing as well…she knows better!

“If Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera ever found themselves in the unlikely situation of a sing-off, Perry says that maybe — just maybe — she can use her background in gospel to take on the blond pop star on known for her strong vocal abilities.

MTV UK continued:
“If Christina Aguilera wanted to have a run-off, I could maybe muster up that soul, that gospel that I grew up in,” she told MTV UK. Perry, whose parents are evangelical Christian preachers, grew up in the church. But, ultimately, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer admits that even with gospel in her soul, she can’t compete with Aguilera’s killer pipes. “No, I can’t,” she admitted.
I’m not sure anyone can compare to Christina’s vocal ability. Christina is in a class on her own and in my opinion, no one can touch her!
And for the record, Christina had this sexy shorts look long before Katy (no disrespect meant, Katy)!

I love Katy Perry, but there is no way that she could ever compete with Christina vocally, and there’s nothing wrong with that! I like Janet Jackson also, but again- she can’t compete with Christina vocally. Different artists have different voices, styles, and ranges. That’s why music is great, because it always sounds different and unique when you listen to and incorporate multiple styles, artists and genres into your personal tastes.
I absolutely agree! I’m not stuck with loving just one artist or one style of music. Music is the SOUL and I love to see how others express it.

I love Katy, but her voice isn’t like Christina’s, but I like that its unique and so…smoky, is that the right adjective?
Interesting comment about Carrie. I agree her voice is spectacular, but not sure about the strength and power of Christina’s vocal range. But..I could totally be wrong! LOL
