Yeah, you read that correctly. It’s so sad. I never struggled with that (though I resented other people’s ignorance) but I know a lot of people who did and it broke my heart. Rowland says, “It’s said that brown-skinned girls don’t sell magazines, that’s sad. I wished I was fair-skinned, but Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mom, said, ‘Don’t you know how beautiful you are?’”

Kelly and all other darker complection women. I feel your pain, I go to the clubs with my lighter skinned and mixed friends and become invisible. A guy told me one day I was beautiful for a brown skin girl. I was so hurt, because I know I am beautiful regardless of my complextion. The men and media in this world send mixed messages to females. I am glad that my parents taught me to love me at an early age, but some of us are not as fortunate to have that. Screw all the haters, its so funny tha most important thing I learned in college was I can only please me! Anything else is uncivilized. Some people are just ignorant. I am a beautiful dark skin female and I love the skin I was born with. I have never had no problem because I love me first. It’s that slavery mentality that keeps people of color discriminating against eachother so why should anyone else respect us.
