Kelly Rutherford is spotted carrying her 3-year-old son Hermes as she leaves the Gossip Girl set Monday in NYC.
In a recent article in Los Angeles Times, Rutherford discussed motherhood and Gossip Girl. Rutherford, new mommy to 4-month-old baby girl Helena, is recently divorced from her second husband, Daniel Giersch.
“I’m a single mother with no child support. I have to work,” Rutherford told the Los Angeles Times. “I also happen to love what I do and think it’s a good example for kids to see their mother working. My son always says to me, ‘Mommy, why do you have to go to work?’ and I tell him, ‘I have to be able to buy the toys.’ He totally gets it.”
Rutherford said she likes that she’s not the “perfect” mother on Gossip Girl, where she plays mom to Serena and Eric (and now Scott) as Lily van der Woodsen — and new wife to Rufus (Matthew Settle).
“There are certain universal things about mothers,” Rutherford told the Los Angeles Times. “Sometimes mothers will embarrass you. We can all relate to that. I like that we show that mothers aren’t always perfect. It’s OK to say, ‘I’m sorry. I didn’t handle that the best way possible.’ “
