Damn near everyone is on Twitter these days even Kim Zolciak. Her first update is predictably, “Just joined Twitter.” Tamra Barney joined, but still doesn’t quite get it. Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel (who’s had her account for quite some time now) both use their accounts to simply post what they are doing and to pimp out their projects. Oddly enough, the most interesting housewife Twitter is crazy Kelly Bensimon. Most of her updates are about hanging out with her girls, or as she calls them, the “kidlets.”
The funniest use of Real Housewife social networking is the back and forth between the housewives on Facebook. I managed to observe the following between Tamra Barney, Kim Zolciak and Kim’s daughter Brielle:

My grandma and mom and all my aunts called all us kids… kidlets. Me and my sisters call our kids… kidlets. It’s cute and affectionate.
I spend way too much time online already, I am not even checking out this Twitter chit.
Well then Tamra must really hate herself because she is a backstabbing liar. Who the hell cares what that loser twitters, she is a classless moron.
Figures she would be friends with someone like Kim, lol.

You don’t have to have a PhD in psychology (although it would be helpful) to understand that Kelly’s lack of depth is an example of someone who has grown up being “the pretty girl”. Doors open a lot easier for “the pretty girl” with no heavy lifting required. That is why Bethenny really gets under Kelly’s skin. Kelly perceives herself to be hardworking and tough (Bethanny’s qualities), but on some level realizes that she is a sham. She really is a mirror for all that is troubling for women and, in particular, girls in American society today. All her self-worth since her early childhood has been tied up in her beauty and image. By exposing her shallowness to the masses, it is very apparent (and perhaps to Kelly as well) that her mirror is cracked and what she is reflecting back to herself is anything but attractive. I suspect most people would not want to grow up to be Kelly Bensimon. Actually — show her on screen segments to your daughters as a cautionary tale.
Maddie, I totally agree. I’m sure she’s been getting a pass her whole life, especially being associated with Giles Bensimon. It’s no mistake she still goes by her old name and doesn’t go by Kelly Killoren.
