Lauren Graham Developing TV Show

In addition to the three great interviews Lauren Graham gave this week, I also wanted to point out this great article / interview with her. The interview starts off by comparing the “faithless” wives of Flash of Genius and Evan Almighty, and moving on to talk about meeting Phyllis and taking on her character in Flash of Genius.

When asked about taking on so many movie roles in dramatic roles, Lauren responds in saying she’d “have to go back to television” if she were to pursue comedy. Lauren, indeed, expects to be back to television soon:

I started writing this year and I started developing a TV show.

Lauren Graham says she’s developing a TV show, though she cannot talk about it yet. She’s started to have meetings and has a show runner who is very funny. In reference to the return to tv, she says:

The next time around, I can be more pro-active and look for something and develop it and be part of the process instead of being simply an actor for hire.

Lauren says the cancellation of Gilmore Girls smarts, and she’d like to have more control next time.

Everybody was mad for so many reasons. We’d already had a wrap party thinking we’d possibly come back. People had not been told in any nice way. My TV dad found out from his video store clerk, ‘Sorry about your show.’

There were rumors earlier that Lauren Graham had signed to NBC to develop a pilot, but the last news we had on that was that the WGA strike terminated the deal. There was also information, a long time ago, about a “Boxers or Briefs” pilot.

Good God! It was her input that pushed the Lorelai and Chris’ storyline in the 7th Season. I would say she is better as an actress. She should leave the writing and producing to others.

Whatever the reason, I hope to see Ms. Graham on television series again, once she has shed the Lorelei image. Could be that her return to television will imitate that of Julia Louis-Dryfus, in that Dryfus shed her “Elaine” image after some time and then found her spot on “The new adventures of old Christine”. Graham might finally win a well-deserved emmy in a new format.
