Lauren Graham in “Guys and Dolls”

Lauren Graham All My SonsIt was only a little more than a week since Lauren Graham attended the Broadway premiere of “All My Sons”, with me wishing she’d be in her own show. And now I have the pleasure to announce – Lauren Graham will be on Broadway!!

Lauren Graham will take the lead role of Miss Adelaide in the Broadway revival of “Guys and Dolls“, opening March 1 at the Nederlander Theatre. Previews for the new show will begin on February 3rd.

Lauren Graham will co-star in the revival with Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit. Producer Howard Panter says, of casting, Lauren:

“She is the perfect combination of leading lady and natural comedienne and I know she will be the ideal romantic foil for Oliver Platt’s Nathan.”

About “Guys and Dolls”

Guys and Dolls is a musical, with music written by Frank Loesser. It’s based on two short stories by Damon Runyon and first hit Broadway in 1950. In its original production, directed by George S. Kaufman, it ran for 1201 performances and won 5 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. In 1995, it was turned into a film.

Guys and Dolls has been revived several times now, 3 times on Broadway and several more times around the world. The latest revival will be directed by Des McAnuff with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

You’ll likely know many musical numbers that are from Guys and Dolls, such as “Luck be a Lady” and “Adelaide’s Lament.”

Lauren Graham as Adelaide

Lauren Graham will portray Miss Adelaide, the long-suffering fiancee to Nathan Detroit. Adelaide is a very comic character, always complaining that she has a cold because somebody isn’t going to marry her – that somebody being Nathan. Despite numerous assurances from Nathan that they’ll marry, he never does fulfill that promise. And her key song, “Adelaide’s Lament“, talks about her cold being a manifestation of her resentment about this.

Adelaide delivers numerous punch lines through the play. Every line she delivers is said to be “worth something” and have impact, charm and humor. Sounds right up Lauren’s alley!

Lauren Graham talks about the role, saying:

“To be making my Broadway debut in this role, in this musical, is truly thrilling.”

I went and saw this…………AMAZING!!!! I absolutley LOVE the Gilmore Girls and was very excited to see Lauren in something but was also weary because I only see her as Lauralai…I CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW WELL SHE DID! Her accent was so fun and she sings great-It was really amazing. I just love her. And at the end when they did the curtain call she turned into this humble, sweet woman that I haven’t seen before but it made me love her more because she obviously hasn’t let all her fame go to her head. She’s great…Have I mentioned that I love her:-)?! Haha. I live in New England so the Gilmore Girls was my thing for so long.I was so impressed with her in Guys and Dolls and can’t wait to see what she does next!p.s. I can’t wait to see Alexis in Post Grad either!

Guys and Dolls will be in NYC at the Nederlander Theater with previews starting Feb. 3 and Opening Night will be March 1. I am so bummed that I won’t be able to go but am hopeing that information, clips, pictures and a new soundtract will show up. I also hope that they will do a scene from it with Lauren singing at the Tony Awards. I think they will be held a month after the show opens and they usually do something from the revival shows. Previous actress who have done the part of Adelaide have won the Tony Award. Maybe, hopefully Lauren will finally be recognized for her great talent.

I’m pleased for her, she seems to love the theatre and she is musically talented, heard her sing in ‘GG’ and ‘Because i said so’, and it was really good.
This seems like her ‘thing’ as well, being a comic character, im sure she’ll bring her own unique show to it.
If only it was the westend and not broadway :/

Lauren did sing on GG in one of my all time favorite scenes – when she serenades Luke with “I Will Always Love You.” Lauren is a very musically-gifted person. This would be very good for her.
