Lauren Graham’s production of Guys and Dolls has been in previews on Broadway for most of this month with opening night scheduled for March 1st. As buzz is generated for the show, we can add to the great fan reviews I’ve shared with some new interviews with Lauren Graham!
Lauren Graham, who plays Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, talks to the New York Times about trying to discover who her character was.
“She’s a dancer in a marginal club, and all her fantasies are about getting out: getting out of the city with this boyfriend she has stayed with for so long, giving up this gambler’s life.”
Lauren Graham seems excited to take on the role, though admits it’s “scary to do such wonderful material.” And in a very candid interview with Time Out New York, Lauren jokes about turning to stripping after only 2 years out from Gilmore Girls:
“People keep asking for the Gilmore Girls movie. This is what it would have been. Lorelai falls on hard times, separated from Rory. “
Ok, she kids! It’s a very funny interview, Lauren talking about her previous time singing in college and about waiting for David Letterman to propose! Lauren admits she has a love-affair with late-night talk shows – she loves the comedy and tries to be a good guest when she’s invited on:
“I’ve mined my childhood and show business for stories, and I’ve got a couple old theater tales no one cared about till now. But [hosts] will say, ‘Hey, I read on the Internet that you said, ‘Belly buttons are cool.’?’ I’m like, ‘That old chestnut? You kidding me?’”
Lauren Graham says her “bellybuttonsarecool” joke has haunted her since it was printed in a magazine in 2002. Lauren then moves on to joking that she should start a feud with Alexis Bledel, just because she can. But really, Lauren says that she’s never been maternal towards Alexis:
“She does not need me to be a real or fake mother toward her. She’s just a really cool girl. And she really likes doughnuts, so we discuss deep-fat frying.”
Also check out some photos of Lauren Graham during her performance of Guys and Dolls. She looks amazing!
Guys and Dolls has its official opening night on March 1st at the Nederlander Theater. You can buy tickets here. If you go to the production, leave a comment or email me to tell me what you think – and if you’re lucky enough to get a photo of and/or with Lauren, do let me know so I can share it!

You could spend your whole life predicting what Graham will say in an interview and never come close.

Saw her at the Tony Awards last night. My 11 year old daughter asked her for an autograph outside after the event (other MUCH bigger stars were graciously signing away)and Ms. Graham glared at her and told her “no way.” We were all completely stunned by her behavior. I guess the gossip about her is true, maybe she really is a complete b*tch.

I am sure that performing for the Tony Preview Concert and appearing onstage at the Tony Awards was pretty tough if she already knew that “Guys&Dolls” was going to close very soon!???? Does anyone know the REAL status of her ABC show “Let It Go?” She has “pish-toshed” a “Gilmore Girls” movie but with her Broadway stint done and “Let It Go” not seen on the ABC Fall 2009 schedule, maybe there is time for a GG movie, now? Just a thought…….If one was done, everyone would stop asking, “When IS a GG movie going to be made?” To say “Goodbye properly!” I might add! Does anyone know what Amy Sherman-Palladino is up to???………Might there be a chance she is working on a movie script for the “Girls?” I have posted this question at a couple of other sites and no one seems to have an answer! I guess only Amy/Dan and Warner Brother’s know for sure at this point. It is, afterall, 2 years since the final episode was shown and 2 years since Amy mentioned a movie…. ABC Family has started showing Season 7 for the first time! I think that might renew some interest in Amy’s movie idea!!!!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed, here!

Thank you so very much for that information Arieanna! I appreciate you answering me more than you know! Now……………What are the chances you could find out about Amy Sherman-Palladino’s current projects? I have always hoped that after the Palladinos went to the Democratic Convention in Denver last summer, they would have gathered some nice information to continue Rory’s storyline on the Obama campaign! (now all the way to the White House!) When Michael Ausiello tweeted “Gilmore Girls” movie “greenlighted for 2011″ on April 1, 2009, it was an April Fool’s joke wasn’t it? I don’t even quite understand “Twitter” and “tweeting” but I saw a site where he had entered the 2011 movie rumor……and I know I am not the only one confused by this type of stuff…..One site thinks the ABC Family “new season of GG” is an 8th season…not the 7th one that we have seen on the CW. Clearly, it is just Season 7 if you watch it. I still hope it might trigger a renewed push ro let Warner Brother’s know how much interest is still out there. I am the person who sent the Great8Mandate petition with 12,500 signatures on it to Peter Roth and the Sherman-Palladinos. I wouldn’t mind printing out the new names and sending them as an addendum to the first envelope. I think the petition has well over 17,000 signatures now. Thanks for your help!

Thanks again, Arieanna, for the update! Maybe with Lauren having more free time than she had anticipated…….It will give Amy a little motivation to start jotting down notes…or an outline for a movie! It is clear from 6 years with her “baby” (GG) that she is an excellent “multi-tasker!!!! We can always hope! Thanks!

Janet, “Let it Go” was not picked up for the Fall season. The critics didn’t like it. Since the pilot was already shot, and there’s no word of it being re-shot, that’s probably the end of the show.

I have no direct knowledge of the Palladinos except what was previously posted here – that Amy is working on a movie and Dan on a new tv show. Sorry!
