There’s tons of people who go into the production of our favorite tv shows, including stand-ins, actors who resemble the stars who help prepare a show for production. Here’s a definition from trusty Wikipedia:
Stand-ins are helpful in the initial processes of production. Lighting setup can be a slow and tedious process; during this time the actor will often be somewhere else. Stand-ins allow the director of photography to light the set, the camera department to light and focus scenes. The director will often ask stand-ins to deliver the scene dialogue (“lines”) and walk through (“blocking”) the scenes to be filmed. In this way, a good stand-in can help speed up the day’s production and is a necessary and valuable cast member on a film.
This is just to let you know that Patty Malcolm, stand-in for Lauren Graham (Lorelai on Gilmore Girls), will be on Criminal Minds on December 9. She was also briefly in an older episode, titled “The Performer.” Lucky for Patty, she’s finally getting a role with an actual character’s name! If you check out this photo on Gilmore Girls Book, you can see the strong resemblance between Patti and Lauren. She played Lauren’s stand-in for 5 years!
Thanks to Gilmore Girls Book for the tip!
Here’s a preview of the episode, titled “The Slave Of Duty.” It doesn’t feature Patty in it, but it looks interesting!

That is soooo cool. I have followed Patty for years and think she is awesome. But wait, I think you meant to say December 9th. Because Criminal Minds is on Wednesday nights, and that is the 9th. I will be watching for sure. Thanks so much for the heads up.

She’s really nice. I met her once on the WB lot when I was doing the tour with my family. GG was filming in the backlot and she came up and talked to us and told us about the show. I am glad to see her working, she deserves it. I’ll be watching..

Many thanks for mentioning the book, Maria. And yes, Patty is definitely one to watch. I can only second what others have said about her being extremely kind, and I’m sure this is just the beginning for her. Stay tuned!
