Let's talk about last night's 'Secret Life of the American Teenager'

I watched the new episode of The Secret Life of the American Teenager “That’s Enough of That!” on ABC Family and practically cried throughout the whole episode.

Daren Kagasoff as Ricky gave an award-winning performance as a teenager who finally is forced to come to terms with the sexual and physical abuse put on his shoulders by his father Bob who has been harassing Ricky for the last two episodes.

In this episode, Bob continues to terrorize Ricky and his friends — promising Ricky he will go away if he gives him information so he can “sell” Amy’s (Shailene Woodley) baby to the highest bidder. Bob doesn’t care about Ricky or anyone else for that matter — not Amy or the baby. He’ll hurt whoever is in his way to get what he wants.

Adrian (Francia Raisa) is the first to reach out to Ricky, and he does start to break down and explain why he acts the way he does from his horrible childhood. Adrian begs her father Ruben (Philip-Anthony Rodriguez), the police officer, to help get Bob back off the streets.

Meanwhile, Ricky tells Grace’s parents Marshall (John Schneider) and Kathleen (Josie Bissett) Bowman he doesn’t want to be around her for a while because he’s afraid his father will harm her. He tells them the truth about his sexual abuse, wishing he could be a Christian like them but instead feels cheated because when he was being abused, his prayers weren’t answered for his father to leave him alone.

George (Mark Derwin) and Anne (Molly Ringwald) also are concerned about Ricky’s father Bob with each handling the situation in their own way. George wants to kill Bob, but chooses to seek help from Adrian’s dad, while Anne has a “talk” with Bob — telling him there’s no way she’s going to put up with him hurting anyone she cares about. Way to go Ann!

Grace reaches out to Ricky, knowing the truth, but he pushes her away. He told her parents he loves her, but to her face, he can’t say the words when she tells him she loves him. She touchingly tells him she “prays no one will ever hurt you again.” But Grace is hurt, left in tears. Could this be the end of Grace and Ricky?

Then the best part of the episode, Mr. Bowman (Schneider) talks to Ricky one-on-one, telling him it’s not his fault he was abused and it’s up to him to break the cycle of abuse.

Ricky tells him he’ll never know what he went through, but Mr. Bowman says he does — telling Ricky the very sad story about how his brother was sexually abused by a neighbor and he didn’t find out about it until his brother committed suicide and told everyone in the note. The brother didn’t think his family would love him if they found out. Mr. Bowman tells Ricky he believes in him and will ALWAYS be there for him if he needs to talk, without judgment. He even will allow Ricky to stay in Grace’s life. (AWESOMELY EMOTIONAL SCENE)

As Ricky goes to see Adrian (not sure of why he was there to see her), she says she’s been trying to call him. Thanks to a tip from Jack (Greg Finley), the police caught Ricky’s father with drugs, meaning he violated his parole and will be going back to prison.

Also on the show, Ashley (India Easley) tries to take a job as a cocktail waitress with her fake ID to make money for the family, but her father catches her. She is trying so hard to keep her family together — helping her sister and not wanting her parents to divorce. She’s not going about it the right way, but still.

Meanwhile, Amy seems to be pushing an over-bearing Ben (Ken Baumann) away, wanting to do the baby stuff, such as finding out if the baby is a girl or boy, without him. At first, Amy doesn’t even want her mom to be in the room when she finds out, but obviously she changes her mind because a little later, everyone receives “It’s a boy” text messages as Ben helps Amy and her mom make a video for the baby, explaining how much she loves the baby and that’s why she is trying to find the best home possible for him.

On the previews for next week, it looks like Amy will be pushing Ben even further away as Ricky becomes more involved.

And have you seen the news that Molly Ringwald is pregnant with twins?

It seems her pregnancy will be written in the show. That’s definitely a great Secret Life spoiler.

New episodes of The Secret Life of the American Teenager air at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. CST on Mondays on ABC Family.

What are your thoughts on the show? What did you think about last night’s episode? What do you think will happen between Amy and Ben? Ricky and Grace? Do you think Amy should give the baby up for adoption?

I was completely and totally blown away by Ricky this episode! I don’t tune in for the acting usually, but he was absolutely fantastic in this past episode. He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite characters, just because it’s not easy to figure out what’s going on in his head. I loved Monday’s episode, I thought it was the series’ best episode yet. Cannot wait to see what they bring next week!
