On January 21, 2009, FOX will premiere its new drama Lie to Me. The series is developed around the real-life science of lying discovered by Paul Ekman.
I’ve had the opportunity to see the screener and was instantly drawn in to this new drama – something that reminds me of the ‘people drama’ aspect of Bones with almost a science-documentary feel to it. A compelling story that actually teaches you how to tell when someone is lying (handy, right?).
Lie to Me stars Tim Roth as Dr. Cal Lightman, the world’s leading deception expert who studies facial expressions and body language to discover if someone is lying. And if they’re lying, why. Also starring in the series are Kelli Williams, Monica Raymund and Brendan Hines.
In Lie to Me, we follow Dr. Lightman and his team at the Lightman Group as they assist law enforcement and government agencies to expose the truth behind the lies. In the pilot episode, Dr. Cal tries to uncover if a student killed his teacher… and if so, why. More compelling is how all of this is uncovered and how we, as we watch, can learn the signs of deception. I can usually tell if someone I know well is lying, but a complete stranger? That’s a lot harder. And imagine always knowing the truth!
