Life Unexpected coming to CW on Jan. 18

Life UneXpected, CW’s upcoming midseason drama, will makes its premiere on Monday, Jan. 18.

The show is a sweet drama about a 15-year-old girl named Lux (Britt Robertson, Swingtown) stuck in foster care in Portland, Oregon who wants to become emancipated, but the only way she can do that is if she has her biological parents she’s never met sign off on paperwork.

Her biological father Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, Mad Men) doesn’t even know she exists until the day she knocks on the door of the bar he owns and lives above to ask him to sign the paperwork. And, she needs to know the identity of her real mom. Just as Baze is surprised to hear that he has a daughter, Lux is surprised to hear that her biological mom is Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, E.R.), a star on the local morning radio show she has listened to for years.

Cate’s on-air partner and real-life boyfriend Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith, Eli Stone, Dawson’s Creek) learns the news that she gave up the baby as a teenager as Cate learns that the baby girl she kept secret for so long sadly was never adopted.

When a judge decides that Lux isn’t ready for emancipation and unexpectedly grants temporary joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to get past the awkwardness and make a belated attempt to give Lux the family she deserves

Life UneXpected doesn’t have a set time period as of yet. The CW plans to move the show back in forth between One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl’s time period on Monday instead of airing repeats of those shows. Personally, I don’t understand why they can’t air Life UneXpected on Wednesdays where they have an open time spot, but whatever.
