I read an interesting piece today on Women’s Wear Daily suggesting that Lindsay Lohan’s FunnyOrDie skit is actually a cleverly-designed ad for her products. They say:
“The 91-second snippet… is actually a commercial for her leggings and hosiery line, 6126, and self-tanner, Sevin Nyne. After all, Lohan combines the number-based names of the brands for her fictitious member ID for the matchmaking service. She also spritzes a can of the tanning mist on her already bronzed face in the video.”
However, they forget that Lindsay named those products after her favorite numbers, so it seems appropriate she’d re-use them here. And why not, they are her brand! Lindsay’s partner in 6126 and Sevin Nyne says they decided to laugh at the “over-the-top rumors” that were spreading. Lindsay Lohan co-wrote the script.
Here’s the video again as a reminder:
I think, more than selling her products, what this video does is sell LINDSAY. To remind people that she’s here, she’s funny, and she’s bouncing back in all ways. So, if the video is an ad for Lindsay, I’d say it’s doing a fantastic job!
QUICK STATS:
Lindsay Lohan’s video on FunnyOrDie – 1,983,186 views as of April 15th at 2:35PM PSt.
There are also dozens of copies of the videos spreading on YouTube. I’d call that a success! If Lindsay continues to use social media like this, she’ll have control of her brand – her career – in no time.
