Beginning of Day 2 and we’re missing Simon. Ryan says he’s suffering from a singing hang-over. First auditioner up is Jenry Bejarano and it’s hard to believe he’s only 16. Singing “I’d Give Anything to Fall In Love” by Gerald LeVert. Paula is pleasantly surprised by him being 16, in-tune, voice texture and “easy on the eyes”. Carol says he’s very charismatic and has a great voice. With Simon absent, he gets 100% vote through to Hollywood.
Up next is Nakia Claiborne the new Shirley Caesar. This girl is a giant ball of energy. She could probably power the Big Apple for the 2007 New Year’s Eve party in Times Square. The judges ask her to take it down a little bit and sing another song which she does very well. Paula says she needs a lot of work with her singing. Vocally she was all over the place. Carol says the first song was so much fun, the judges didn’t care about missed notes, which were very visible on the slow song. Three no votes. She didn’t make it, but she got applause from the other people waiting to audition. She definitely made an impact on people that she came into contact with, and that’s a very important trait for people to have.
Sarah Goldberg finishes comforting Nakia and auditions herself. She probably should have stayed out of the room and continued to console Nakia. Carol Bayer Sager asks her if she really felt she was a singer and she said “No”. They appreciated her honesty. She think she can be the next American Idol because they could train her. She’s lost touch with reality. I admire her strength and personality. Sarah says she found out that the judges were out drinking in NYC till 3am, which is proven by Simon just now showing up. But is that wrong?

Up next is somebody that doesn’t look like he’s twice the age of the maximum age of a contestant. He sang New Yor, New Yor. No spell check required.
Jory Steinberg is from Ottawa, Canada but now lives in Santa Monica, CA. Doesn’t matter where she’s from or you are though. She can sing! She’s got a great look too. Simon said that was terrific, paced it well, everything, on the money. 100% yes from everyone.
(My DVR recording really stinks tonight. It’s my Comcast DVR and not my TiVo, and it’s just horrible)
Porcelana Patino has been “militant” about preparing for this audition. Her physical training is matched by her vocal training. Everybody votes her through to Hollywood. She gets a group hug from everyone but Simon. She’s very happy.
The pre-commercial tease shows us that Simon and Paula get into it later. Should be fun.

The first clip is of people getting their names butchered by the judges.
The first contestant is Christopher Henry and is the Simon Cowell look alike (and George Michael too). He auditions with a Kelly Clarkson song and for a minute I thought our fire-alarm was going off. Horrible! He should focus on modeling, I think he’s got a career doing that. And this is where Simon and Paula get into it because Simon said Christopher should be singing in a dress and stilettos.
Next is Rachel Zevita, a opera student that says she may get kicked out of school and/or lose her scholarship if they find out she came here to try-out. She’s got the control that you’d expect from an opera singer, but it just doesn’t translate to pop music for me. She makes it through though. We’ll see how she does in Hollywood.

We come back with a compilation of people singing Lionel Ritchie’s “All Night Long”.
Chris Richardson delivers with a Don Hathaway song and delivers it for sure. Randy and Paula thinks he looks and sings like Justin Timberlake. Simon believes Chris is someone that could really suprise us in the next round. With that, he makes it to Hollywood. His dad is super happy.
—Commercial Break —
Another compilation of people that can’t sing.
Contestant #10377 should be familiar to us. He made it to Hollywood last season, but bowed out when he couldn’t get the lyrics down for “Buttercup”. Nicholas Pedro. He sings “Fly Me to the Moon” and we see exactly why he made it through to Hollywood last season. He’s a crooner. Reminds me of Michael Buble. Carol thinks he’s wonderful. Yes from Randy. Paula loved him before and loves him even more today. Simon gave him a yes too. I still think he should have sang “Buttercup”!
— Commercial Break —
Isadora Furman is first up and she’s a clairvoyant. You’d think she could have foreseen the results and not wasted her time. She’s horrible, but we all could have seen that coming since they’ve been teasing us with her audition before almost every commercial break. During her song she seems to have broken into a scene from “When Harry Met Sally”. You know the one where they’re in the diner? Simon said it was fantastically terrible. Another person that doesn’t accept the judges opinions.
Ryan’s exit interviews with contestants have been classic this season. He just stands there and doesn’t say anything which just sets up a very interesting and awkward silence between him, the contestant and the cameras.
Not sure if you noticed it through the auditions though, but was that Olivia Newton-John as one of the judges? Let me know.
